Secondly, what will happen to the current Danfo drivers? Will the State Government, give them the new buses to run? or will it be another project that will be hijacked by some top politicians?

Finally, will this new arrangement, eradicate all the agberos that collect revenue for every bus stop?

Last Word: I hope the Government consult widely as well as make plans for the current danfo drivers. Possibly incorporating them into their proposed driver training program. The ban of Street Hawking and demolition of some roadside shops and market is already increasing the number of armed robbery incidence. We don't want anything that will further aggravate the situation.

What they are being replaced with is more important than the fact that you want to replace them. It must be better.

Let every one go and put their vocational skills to test. You will finf out that 90% of this drivers have an economic skil but because they are nit ready to give their best shot to get clients with that skill, they ventured into transport. The same reason you see okada everywhere

What the govt needs is both short range plan and long range plan. On the long range you can fund transit. However, on the short range what we have is Danfos, okadas and kekes. Even tho these may not be the best option, they solve some transportation problems and reduce demand on BRT, private car owners etc. What is needed for danfos, okadas and kekes is standardizing their operations. Setting minimum standards for conditions of their vehicles and operations, providing commercial license category for these drivers and riders and gradually phasing them out to new systems in the long range transportation plan.

Pls go ahead ambode...ppl keep saying how will they get replacements when he is currently planning on how to do so....they also say what will the danfo drivers do, they need to start getting proper licences so they can fit into the new change that is yet to come....either way we will upgrade to a more sane means of transport in lagos.

What I think should be done is to roll out a no more registration of vehicles for Danfo businesses in Lagos policy. In the next 8-10yrs, most of them will disappear from the roads from natural wear and tear.
