Research Assistant in the Development of Hardware and Software
Standards for Electron Microscopy
Department Of Materials

Grade 7: Salary £25,633 - £31,525 P.A.: As part of an exciting
new EU research programme spanning nine laboratories, a postdoctoral
position developing hardware and software standards for electron
microscopy, based in the Department of Materials at Oxford is
available, starting as soon as possible, for three years. The
postholder will work closely with members of the academic staff
responsible for this project and with staff from the Oxford Computing
and e-Science laboratories. He/she will also be responsible for user
support and will take responsibility for system administration of EM
group computing resources and will also be responsible for the
specification, deployment and maintenance of a European data server.
Applicants should have at least a first degree in physics, materials
science, engineering, computing or a related discipline with
demonstrated experience in system administration and database design
and support; a doctorate in a similar area would be an
advantage. You will be self-motivated with the ability to work
independently and as part of a team, with excellent written and
interpersonal communication skills. The successful applicant will be
expected to collaborate closely with the research partners within the
project. Experience of collaboration with industry is desirable.
