dayokanu: Okay. That means the head to head will apply if it involves 2 teams. With 3 teams, head to head becomes void and a mini league applies. That sounds logical but for me, goals differerence and the goals scored should come first and then head to head If we have that, Gabon is out, then that leaves us with Zambia and Cameroon with 5 goals scored and 5 against. Head to head comes in and Cameroon tops. |

head-to-head involves Zambia, Cameroun AND Gabon, cos all have 4 pts. All beat each other by 1, so it's h-t-h goals scored: Zambia 4, Cameroun 3, Gabon 2 So Zambia V Nigeria, 7.30PM on MONDAY Courtesy: CAF official |

- Next rule is the number of goals scored among those 3 nations only (excludes Tunisia), so Zambia come 1st with 4 goals (2 against Cameroon and 2 against Gabon), then 2nd is Cameroon with 3 goals and finally Gabon end 3rd of the group with 2 goals (rule is also known as "mini-league". This is the explanation. It is a standard rule in football And Zambia leads while Cameroun came second |

Omo. . . . i ready to set my money sey Cameroon go beat Egypt dis time. Obviously y'all didn't see the last Cameroon game, finally R.Song was benched Glory to Jesus & Honor to Mary along with Geremi & Emana - Idrissou started, Webo came in and was very influential; and Eto'o had a free-flowing role again. The central defence is now a bit more solid, with younger, pacier lads in there; A. Song can now move a bit further up the park, doesn't have to sit deep and try to cover for his uncle all the time - L. Nguemo can drop in behind him & cover if need be - A.Bikey is on the bench for defensive backup. This is the perfect setup for the Lions, they've finally got the balance right & the confidence is there - so far in this competition, they're the only team thats shown the ability to fight back consistently & with Egypt, there's an ax to grind - bad timing for the Pharoahs, they are meeting an indomitable lion team that is finally finding its feet! |

dayokanu: Is it really the standard rule Dayo? The "standard" rule I know is that Gabon wont even be in the reckoning in the first place. Same GD but lesser goals scored. It will then be a straight decision btw Zambia and Cameroon (they scored 5 goald each) and then the better btw the 2 when they met comes into play. That is how I grew up to know group stages in competitions. rasputinn: No one is arguing. We know we are playing Zambia. We're only analysing issues |

Make una see how a white sports writer take analyse CAF group D calculations "There was confusion after the simultaneous games ended with Angolan television not alone in placing Cameroon top of the table, but competition organisers later confirmed that honour went to Zambia on a complex calculation that would have tested Einstein." @everyone: pls who understands how CAF calculated the group D table to make Cameroun go second in the group? i'm lost, cos i think they didn't apply the same calculation in Mali's case @honeric01: LWKMD! |
Re: Africa Nations Cup Angola 2010. The Official Thread by JNdupu: 12:41pm On Jan 22, 2010 |
The best way to look at it is if a number of teams finish with the same points, they enter into a mini-league table among themselves taking into account the matches they played each other. Algeria and Mali finished in their group (won by Angola) with 4 points each, and in the only match they played each other, Algeria beat Mali, so Algeria claimed the second place in the group. Cameroon, Zambia and Mali finished in their group with 4 points so the mini league table will look at the three matches they played each other: Cameroon 0 Gabon 1 Cameroon 3 Zambia 2 Gabon 1 Zambia 2 pts GF GA GD Zambia 3 4 4 0 Cameroon 3 3 3 0 Gabon 3 2 2 0 The goals scored was the deciding factor. detopshot: |
