Blackbuddy:

Hi, you can also get tinned palm oil from the Asian (Chinese) stores like Grant's Foodmart at 3415 Dixie Rd, Mississauga, ON L4Y 2B1. It's right at the intersection of Dixie and Bloor and they also have beef, goat and fish, even fresh point and kill right there. Also try African Caribbean Grocery at 63 Dundas Street West, Mississauga. You will get palm oil in small kegs there as well as gari, semo, melon and other Naija staples. All the Oceans Fresh Food Market stores (Chinese owned) have assorted fish & meat selections with entrails if you want. In this winter, pepper soup is a must to help you cope for the 5 months ahead.

For more meat, try Kabul Farms Supermarket at 255 Dundas St West in Mississauga. If you don't mind going far then Laurie Meat is good at 1696 Jane Street, at Jane and Lawrence West, York/Toronto but I personally prefer Sisi Meats at 2734 Jane Street, Toronto. The owner, Dominic, an Italian, is much neater than Laurie and I always go to him for full goat. If you can get some friends together, you can buy a whole cow and Dom will split it up for you guys.

For occasional cooked meals, try Village Suya at 900 Rathburn Road West, Mississauga. Evcen oyinbos recommend the place. Another one to try if you like to stroll is Get Grill at 7910 Hurontario St, Brampton. Hope these help.

my whole cow sharing game will continue in canny, yippie!!!

Talking about cows, some Black Angus cows checking us out while at work just now. Very curious animals... cheesy.
Not so cold out here yet, it's just -6 at the moment close to the US border in Sask.

Hi, you dont have to have anybody here to come as a visitor/tourist. Just apply for your visitor`s visa, research about where you`re landing and make adequate preparations for your visit and stay if your application is successful. Check this link for more visit visa info, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/tourist.asp

Some programs I know of in Calgary at the moment.....corporate readiness training prog aka CRTP, youth skills connection (by career connections), opportunities knock program, CIWA links to success. This is not an exhaustive list. These are just the ones I know of.

Not all programs are paid but it helps improve your job search skills and resume writing and interview skills plus provides a good opportunity for networking which is key. I guess more research online would yield better results.

Thanks for this.

Hi Salford - looking through the pics, I assume you work in remote locations. I was just wondering if your company has any means of monitoring lone workers in remote locations such as these? Reason is - I'm currently working on a "remote biometric monitoring" project for my company and this is an area we're looking to explore / pilot. This is totally from a safety point of view and has nothing to do with performance monitoring of lone workers smiley

Any thoughts....? is there already a market for this is Canada... Is this something your company may be interested in...?

We can talk offline if that's okay.

Thanks

I wont say we work in remote locations. Nowhere is really remote in alot of places in Canada as they have roads linking almost every cities, towns and villages. There is always a ramada/home inn/day inn hotel or rcmp station/clinic some 50km away max. The roads might not be standard roads grid roads though.

We do have monitoring but not biometrics. I am aware most of our fleet vehicles are installed with gps trackers devices that sends signals to a main station e.g they can tell if you are driving above speed limits on roads. The stations have cctv connected to internet on sites, and we have to call in control centre every two hours to check in.

I am not sure about our crew up north as those ones sometimes take helicopters or planes to sites. You can always contact offline.

Oh yeah - I get the picture now. Good to know there's some form of monitoring for lone workers - I've heard about the GPS monitoring. Very interesting I must admit.

With the project I'm working on, the guys will not have to check in every two hours. The solution is designed to monitor vital signs and communicate this back in real time to the control room. Any anomalies will be picked up in real time and help will be sent out when needed.

Okay - I'll take this offline so I don't get thrown off this thread. cheesy

Thanks for reaching out - will drop you an email after work.

Cheers,

Your project sounds really cool. I am sure there are opportunities in that field especially for hi-tech companies.

Perhaps, you might want to look at kijiji.ca ... You should be able to find something temporary. CC: Esughusughu

For anyone coming to Ottawa. If there is a place you saw and need help viewing it before accepting. I would be willing to help you view it. All I ask is you let me know on time so that i can schedule my time accordingly.

Peace...

God bless you. I may be needing your help soon
