Buhari’s government has long gone down like a lead balloon. It did not take it more than four months to fritter away the goodwill and popularity it once enjoyed in ostentatious abundance. What remains indeterminate is the number of those who shall go down with it. No offensive government has ever risen and fallen without without dragging some men along. Such men are often drafted into governmental impunity in power’s heyday. Hitler drew the curtains over his reign of terror and darkness by committing suicide but his confederates in crime were shipped to Nuremberg.
.
In the case of Buhari’s government, upon the expiration of his administration some people will have to seal their lips forever. Politically, some persons shall die beyond resurrection.
.
Femi Adesina is noticeable in the list of those who are traveling down the hall of infamy. Prior to his appointment as the special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Adesina was a complete journalist and fine statesman. His pages in The Sun inspired and recreated hope. One physically beheld sincerity floating in his lines.
.
Buhari succeeded in effortlessly recreating Adesina. The Adesina we once respected has long changed into a dirty-fighting soldier of appetite. When monstrous herders committed clear genocide in Agatu, Adesina’s thick-skinned master bluntly refused to condemn it. It still beats human imagination that more than five hundred human beings were matcheted to death in a country and her president kept a stiff upper lip. One expected men of good conscience in Buhari’s government to approach him with a piece of their mind. And give him the lie.
.
Adesina later came out in defence of his callous master. He first said that the president is not bound to talk whenever people are killed in the country. We are talking about five hundred healthy human beings among whom were infants, nursing mothers and even pregnant women. He later argued that the ravaging herders are not Nigerians but members of an itinerant tribe from devil knows where. Adesina’s attitude has remained consistent in the numerous killings done under this population-cleaning government. He was again on the side of the murderous oppressor when Burutai got angry and killed one thousand armless shia members.
.
I can recall with sadness Adesina’s response in The Channels when he was confronted with a question as to why power supply dropped in all parts of the country. Adesina advised Nigerians to go and fight vandals in the Niger if they need constant power supply. It was then that it astonishingly struck some of us that the fabulous commentator who once held us spellbound does not know the basic responsibilities of a government.
.
Adesina has avidly defended Buhari’s selective, vindictive and lopsided war against against corruption. A discriminatory battle against graft which according to Shehu Sani involves the use of insecticide when the political enemies of the president are involved and deodorants when his political friends are involved.
.
When some senior Judges were in a brutal sweep of impunity beaten and exposed to unspeakable ridicule by our law-disrespecting president, Adesina went on air and prattled that they should stay clean from the bench till the conclusion of their trial. But when the greatest grass cutter of our time, Lawal Babachir was caught pants down in sharp practices, Adesina and his many-faced master swung to his defence. The same Femi Adesina told us that Grasscutter-in-chief Babachir cannot vacate his office on the flimsy strength of a mere accusation.
.
Adesina and rebaptized Yemi Osinbanjo have continued to talk through their hats and to feed Nigerians with shaggy dog’s stories of how the president is healthier than an Olympic sprinter when Nigerians are mightily worried about the present health condition of their leader. Like pregnancy, however, the president’s condition cannot be hidden for a long time and will soon leave the realm of speculation.
.
It cannot be forgotten that Yemi Osinbanjo in a crazed quest for power and influence betrayed two sacred callings. He betrayed his calling as a priest and then as a lawyer. As a priest he was mute when Fulani Jihadists attacked and killed measureless number of Christians in the South of Kaduna. Lamentably, Yemi , a supposed christian Pastor consented not to condemn the ghoulish and unprecedented extermination of his kind. Yemi departed the camp of Peter for the palace of Herod Agrippa.
.
He equally disappointed the hallowed legal profession. He is a conspirator in a lawless government that unfazedly disregards court orders and calls the bluff of the constitution. He crossed his legs and watched as inconvincted men were flung into detention. He observed with criminal detachment as unarmed protesters were roundly shot and drowned. He too shall incure the harsh judgement of history for according to Martin Luther King, the greatest enemy of the society is not the evil doer but men who remain reticent in time of great moral crisis.
.
Itse Sagay will be another Buhari’s victim. How sad! I don’t know what Sagay hopes to gain. A far-famed professor of law, it generates consternation as to how Sagay has thrown caution to the winds as he is hell bent on making a pig’s breakfast of his splendid pedigree. Sagay has quarreled with every known principle of our law in his surprisingly low-witted attempt to shield the extra-constitutional and unlawful activities of this government. Sagay now rambles about citing newspaper articles as justification for the indefensible deeds of this government. Sagay is the new black sheep of the legal family.
.
Only a man with steel-Like moral fiber can survive Nigeria. That is why Gani remains an undethroned god. He was able to outface the moral brutality of this hell. It happened to Niki Tobi. Tobi was the cream of the bench. He stood out clean as my favourite judge. Tobi was superhumanly industrious. He wrote his judgements with conscripting touch of literature and clothed them with unattackable logic. He was well -nigh on the same wavelength with lord Denning the English god. Tobi made law palatable. But Yar’Adua destroyed him with just a token. His exit from the bench was unceremonious and uncelebrated. He didn’t recover from the butchery he made of conscience. Sagay is gradually going down the same abyss of shame.
