The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC had during its protest on February 9, 2017 demanded that names of corrupt individuals looting the country’s treasury be published and put to shame. Adding that such persons should have their hand amputated for easy identification. The statement which was made by the union’s president, Ayuba Wabba appears to glorify the Shari’a Penal Code for theft which was derived from Quran 5:38 that stated that “[As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah . And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. The law in Islamic Shari’a law demands that any individual found guilty of stealing should have his or her hands amputated.
