Fashola may not be the one who insert it but he will sure get his cut from it after the illicit deal is accomplished.

Fashola's budget I don't get, does Fashola as an individual have a budget in Nigeria? Must you drag his name into it to prove your weightless point. This is a ministry for goodness sake, budget goes through several different commitees including legislative bodies. Get your facts right people before posting sensational stories that frizzle out after few hours due to lack of substance.

1. It is not an illicit deal because there is a purpose for the fund only that it is not coming from the ministry.

2. Fashola was a governor in Lagos state and enjoys pensions and is currently a minister with a good pay so he's never in any way going to enrich himself via inflated contracts. With the positions he has found himself in, he is highly contented.

Will be very difficult for this country to stop corruption. The other day I met secondary school students saying they wanna become governor and ministers so they can build houses in Germany, US and other parts of the world. The other guy said he wanna be moving on 20 cars and power bike as escorts. The other guy said he will go and pack money abroad to come and paint the town red.

I rest my case.
Kill corruption and you will see the glory of Nigeria will shine among-st the comity of nations, allow corruption to continue, Nigeria will continue to deteriorate till the end of the world, even if Nigeria prays every second of the day , the prayer will be meaningless, corruption is the DEMON & MONSTER that has crippled Nigeria sad.

Ministry of Finance inserting a budget line into Works and housing, why not into theirs?? When did Ministry of Finance start building houses for ministry of housing, am sorry to say, the Minister for Works, power and housing denying he knows nothing about it, isn't the truth, because his Ministry's budget was never finalized without his input...anyways let's hear what finance will say when they get to explain their own part of the story

Bro, please understand how this stuffs works before crucifying Fashola here. The 2bn wasn't inserted by his ministry but the finance ministry so why bring Fashola and corruption into same sentence?
Let someone insert cocaine into your bag, then tell NDLEA that it's not yours. Some people are just so gullible, who's the principal accountant of the ministry? Who's the overseer?

You people should stop this unnecessary bias.

The presidency was deeply involved in last year's budget padding. Some of us stated it at first, even before jubril increased it. Let's stop this subtle ways of shielding the executive and pointing on the legislative house. We are not helping them.

bros if u are correct .. Then the budget/finance minister should be up there defending the budget...

but on d contrary .. The Minister Fashola who is solely responsible for everything that happens in the ministry is there to defend the budget of his ministry...

now if anything was added.. Firstly he would've cross-checked to make sure his reputation is not tarnished....

also on another note... Probably he was told about the inclusion and refused it ... But as Nigerians ... Theyl tell him .. "ah .. Oga leave am... Dem nogo talk... If them talk .. We go defend am.."...

hence, the reason he said to call the minister of finance to come and defend the inclusion in the budget...

All in all ... There is no excuse for ignorance... I don't know how it got there is not an excuse when u endorsed the budget...

N2bn is not an oversight... A couple of thousands here and there, yes.... Not N2bn...

Funny thing was everybody just took it lightly ..laughed over it n that was the end of the story...

The budget/ finance minister isn't there to defend the budget because it is the budget of Fashola's ministry and he is the one to be there to defend it.

Here is what you dont understand sir from what I learnt about budget preparations, the Minister in this case prepares his ministries budget, goes through it and if satisfied then submits it to the Budget ministry for onward preparations. After the minister has submitted the budget proposal of his ministry, it wont be returned to him to do any further cross-check if anything was added at the budget office or finance ministry therefore, he wont be able to defend whatever has been inserted because the insertions are not there for him to cross-check.

Personally, I would wonder why they didnt communicate with him about the insertions because from the article, it was obvious Fashola wasnt aware of what the line item is about.

Bro, one question for you. When Fashola says he doesnt sign cheques, has anyone even from the opposition come out to say he is lying? Have you ever worked in the government to know how contracts are awarded and who signs cheques?

Fashola is the face of APC. Dont you think PDP would have capitalised on that statement to rubbish him. Let's not argue on what we dont know about. It is possible, he doesnt sign cheques. That's not the issue here though.

It is my responsibility to know how these thigns wrok because I may find myself there or you may or any of your relative. So it's better to understand before criticising sir.

I hope I have done justice to your comments.

Please stop making excuses for mediocrity.

You submit a document to the budget office. You KNOW that even in a non fraudulent exercise, in the normal course of business the Budget office WILL work on your submission...that's their job. So won't you check to make sure the budget you are defending is the budget you submitted? How much more after the padding fiasco of the last budget.

I'm sorry we need to stop making excuses or we will never get anywhere as a country. Fashola is a Lawyer, he relies on associates to do the dirty work. If Fashola employed a lawyer who didn't check his work properly before going to court leading to embarrassment at the court, that lawyer will be sacked!!! I dont think he became a SAN by not being thorough or employing people who are not thorough. What is the benefit of having people with private sector experience in govt if they get to govt and behave like anything goes sloppy civil servants? He didn't have to check it himself, he could have detailed someone he trusts to go over what he submitted and what was sent to the National Assembly before embarrassing himself.

If you want to defend (or are ok with) mediocrity, feel free it's your perogative...but don't complain that nothing works in your country. The new administration already had an embarrassing episode with padding, your govt came to pwer on the mantra of sweeping out corruption, it behoves him to check what he submitted is what he is defending before going to the NA to embarrass himself.

Let me make it clear i am not accusing him of sharp practice, ,my charge is sloppyness

You see sir, it is very easy to criticise because it cost less to criticise than make research on how things are done. It is obvious most of us dont know how budget processes works and I would blame the FG for not educating the masses that's why most of us argue and criticise out of ignorance.

I have already explained how it works and what might have led Fashola to be unaware of the insertion. But well, you can choose to hold onto your criticisms because it's more convenient for you to.

Thank you sir.
