The visits of the acting president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbanjo to consult and re assure major stakeholders in the Niger Delta is seen as a masterstroke that have calm restive nerves and bring relative peace to the region.

It has been observed that the visits which took the Acting President to Delta, Bayelsa and River States has boosted the confidence of the Niger Delta people in the administration of the Federal government as well as give the people a sense of belonging and acceptance. http://nigerdelstars.com/index.php/2017/02/20/impact-of-acting-president-osinbanjo-visits-to-niger-delta/

The Government is deceiving itself by thinking that the visit to Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers State has won the peace in Niger-Delta, the peace in today Niger-Delta is the peace of the graveyard. The reason being the demands of the major groups viz Niger-Delta Avengers (NDA), and Niger-Delta Greenland Justice Movement (NDGJM) which are in the public domain, and can be group under Short Term and Long Term solution has basically being glossed over by Government.
Firstly, the Short-term solution is embeded in the demand of the groups which deals with tinkering with the Amnesty Programme by the removal of Gen Paul Boroh Rtd as head of the programme, but should retain his advisory capacity with Government. Pipeline Surveillance Contract which should be managed by the various communities instead of individuals etc etc has largely being glossed over by this Government.
Secondly, the technical and long term solution which is under the purview of PANDEF are just being papered over by creating motion without movement through the visit of VP Osibanjo.
Finally, without solution to the short term issue nothing positive will come out from the regional frolicking of VP Osibanjo.
