your proton Explanation is completely wrong. Proton is a local malaysia Car as i used the WAJA before getting Gent2 in my stay in malaysia. its a completely different car from any Honda. Proton made in Malaysia and Honda made in Japan. and your ford KUGA is also wrong its quiet different from the ESCAPE. Please do your research properly next time.

Main reason is cos of branding..

Other reason is as op depicted, the name could mean other things in the local dialet of the host country or community.

Just as the no 9. Aristo. That name won't make people buy the vehicle here in Nigeria even if it meets up with their needs, specs and budget.
thanks

Ford fusion/ford mondeo. To the guy above me that doesn't understand the reason for the name changes. It could be for a number of reasons. A car company could purchase another car company that's very popular in a particular region and if they decide to roll out a new car the best thing would be to badge it with the brand name that's already popular in that region and save themselves a little money on advertising while making huge sales. Sometimes it's also about language and culture. For instance you have the very popular ford F150 which is the name it goes by in most parts of the world but in mexico it's know as the ford lobo. It could also be as a result of partnerships to reduce cost of production. These are just a few reasons.
You really understand strategic management. Nice points sir.

Did you know that some cars bear different names in other countries as against what we call them in Nigeria?

The major reason is, car manufacturers won’t use a name that would compromise their car sales in any country. For example, Mitsubishi “Pajero” ended up as Mitsubishi “Montero” in some countries because it means “self-servicer = To Masturbate” in spanish.

In some cases different manufacturers pull resources together to produce the same car. This saves cost especially research cost.

See the cars below…

1. Toyota Highlander is Toyota Kluger in Australia and Japan

1. Toyota Highlander is Toyota Kluger in Australia and Japan

2. Ford Escape is Ford Kuga in South Africa

3. Honda Accord is Proton Perdana in Malaysia

4. Honda Civic is Acura CSX in Canada

5. Lexus RX 300/330/350 is Toyota Harrier in Japan

6. Toyota Rav4 is Toyota Vanguard in Japan

7. Toyota Camry is Toyota Aurion in Australia

8. Chevrolet Aveo is called Holden Barina in Australia

9. Lexus GS 300 is Toyota Aristo in Canada and Japan

10. Infiniti M35 is Nissan Fuga in Japan

Do you know any other, don't forget to add it in the comment section..

Lol.... His info isn't exactly accurate i agree. Most automakers have a luxury vehicle arm and acura is the luxury vehicle arm of honda so from time to time you might have one car marketed as honda in a particular market and as acura in another. An example is the honda civic which is marketed as the acura csx in canada. Other times the company makes visible changes to one car and releases it under a different name specifically for a particular region.

Wrong

Lexus is the luxury arm of Toyota. Just as Infinity is the luxury of Nissan.

Both sets of cars can have the same chassis but different interior and exterior finishings.

Therefore, your Lexus and Harrier assertion is completely wrong. 1 is a Lexus, the other is a Toyota. There are serveral Harriers in Nigerian even. Their interiors are way different.

The same things goes for the Infinity and Nissan.

I saw a pic of an Acura you uploaded in place of a Civic. The same explanation applies here.

As a result of your several mistakes, I'm moved to believe your whole post is based on misinformation.

FYI, that picture of a Highlander is not a Highlander. Cars may look similar but are different. In this case, the difference is obvious.
Pls go to Wikipedia and check car sales and production in different parts of the world and you will see for self.eg Corolla/altis, Camry/aurion, highlander/kluger, frontera/passport/ ..you will be confused. The op is right...check this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Highlander

You do have a point but anybody can edit Wikipedia. It's not a reliable source.

Still doesn't dispute the similarities between Base Model and Luxury Model;
Ford/Lincoln
Nissan/Infinity
Lexus/Toyota
Honda/Acura
Etc

So in the case of the Lex 300 and Harrier, they are clearly not the same cars. Their bodies and chassis are the same but the finishing, features and end user target are different.

There is Honda civic and there is also Acura csx that looks the same with 2006-2011 Honda civic in Canada. The Acura CSX has the luxury features of the Civic like leather seats and sunroof.

There is no Toyota Aristo in Canada.
