My Honda Civic Overheats....pls Help!!! by Najm(m): 11:37pm On Feb 28, 2017
Please I need help from the experienced Honda users in d house.
My 2007Honda civic overheats though not from the radiAtor or fan because when the car is parked, nothing is visible in the bonnet but the temperature gauge goes up. After a scan, the thermostat was the culprit and I was asked to remove it completely.so my question is whether this is a good idea, won't it affect the cooling of the a.c.?
All suggestions are highly and promptly welcome..

What type of scanner was used to diagnose the culprit been the thermostat?
I would like to buy that scanner..... ...........
If the thermostat is locked, simply replace the thermostat...........

try and explain the problem and the condition when it occurs.

Your explanation was not very clear about when the car is in motion

Take a pic of the dash when it overheating and normal because some of our people consider half way overheat

I meant that when the temp gauge goes up to almost red and I park d car, I do not see coolant from the radiator heated and spilling over as is usual with overheating conditions.it's only d temp gauge that goes up and this occurs mostly when the a.c. is on and the car is in traffic for a long period.
The car is not with me presently so I can't get a pic at this time.
Thanks

If the thermostat is suspected to be stucked close ,then remove the faulty one and replace with a good one but if you want to drive the car without thermostat ,then be ready to spend more on fuel and your engine will soon start smoking .

About diagnosing a faulty thermostat ,u dont need a scanner to this ,try to feel the temperature of the hose carrying the thermostat after running the car to temperature of around 80 degree .You will noticed that the hose should start feeling hot indicating that the thermostat has started opening however if the thermostat is stuck close, the hose temperature will remain cold regardless the temperature

I already thought faulty thermostat was diagnosed? The best way to test the thermostat, boil water to maximum boiling point, insert removed thermostat into boiled water, thermostat should open when inserted, if it remains shut, it's locked...... ...

What guys here are trying to tell you is,there is no scanning ditection for a faulty thermostat as a thermostat has no electrical connection, its just mechanical.
you can test your thermostat outside the car
Simple put it on cold water leave for 5 mins,at this point its meant to be locked.then put it inside a pot and boil it, when the water reaches 10 deg boiling it will open, you can actually see it open,I have done this B4.
Your water pump can cause overheating.
You might need bleeding, cos trapped air in the cooling system can cause overheating.
PS:DO NOT REMOVE BUT REPLACE YOUR THERMOSTAT.

Does your cooling fan come on when the temp gauge reaches the middle point or is it permanently on?

When the car is not moving and the fan is running put a page of paper on the front of the radiator the fan should be sucking in air and the paper should stick to radiator.

Get some detergents and carefully low pressure wash the fins of the radiator and condenser to remove the dirt that might be blocking airflow.
My advice will only cost you a small bag of klin and 100 litres of water.

Your problem only seem to happen when the car is stationary so there is no airflow through radiator, or your fan is not working properly or turning in the right direction.

Fix your problem with simple logic not complex and expensive ideas, if your mechanic worked on the fan just before the problem started then you should know he caused it(to increase the benefit of your patronage)

Thanks to everyone for your advice.I'll instruct them not to remove it,and will try the test to see if its locked before replacing it.
