Put your house in order, Sani tells Igbo leaders

A former National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum and spokesperson for northern delegates at the 2014 National Conference, Anthony Sani, has cautioned Igbo leaders against accusing the Federal Government of marginalisation and clamouring for creation of more states in the eastern region.

Sani, in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, asked the south-eastern elders to put their house in order.

He said, “We all would like the Igbo to produce the (next) president of Nigeria but not through violent blackmail. I am not sure politics of appeasement is what Nigeria needs right now.

“That would amount to rewarding bad behaviour of threats and intimidation, which would encourage others to join the club of bad behaviour.

“What the Igbo need is to put their house in order and reach out to make friends with other sections of the country. They need persuasion as against a pugnacious, bellicose and percussive public outing.”

The ACF chieftain also said a recent demand for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, by a group, Nzuko Umunna, was an attempt by some Igbo leaders to curry favours.

Sani added, “I believe the motive of some Igbo leaders asking for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu is to ingratiate themselves with the agitators for political reasons.

“I personally expect the wounds to have been healed, considering the fact that the Igbo have been part of the national government by way of producing the country’s Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, coordinating Minister of the Economy, ministers, and Central Bank of Nigeria governors at various times.

“What kind of inclusion can demonstrate ‘no victor, no vanquished’ more than that? The Igbo held sway in the past regime for five years. Yet, they cry of marginalisation — marginalisation by whom?”

Speaking on the South-East’s call for additional states in the region, he told SUNDAY PUNCH that there was no basis for the demand.

“Land mass and population are true factors that influence socio-economic development. That is why they count in creation of states and local government areas. Does it make sense to agitate for a split of Nigeria and at the same time clamour to rule the same country you want split?
“It does not add up.

If majority of the Igbo believe in a country of their own, they would not settle and invest in other people’s land more than in their own land,” the northern leader argued.

Sani, how many times will the ibos tell you they don't need the presidency? How many million beggars have the north produced even as they continue to produce the Nigerian presidents?

The north should put their house in order first.

I don't know that the people at the top also understand their tactics and antics of impulsive hostility, cheap blackmail and act of bully to achieve their aim.

mbanu!..According to Charles Darwin he says that "In the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed"... No shortcut.

Mr Anthony just re-echoed what we've been telling these guys here all along.

You don't bully your way into the presidency, you negotiate and persuade! That is the meaning of politics and democracy!

its so glaring, subtlety isn't their strong suit. I posted the same thing about the recent visits to kanu recently. The guy own don finish by the time he realizes how igbo leaders have been using him, hin eye go clear. They have to choose either agitate for biafra and leave or stay and pursue diplomatic relations with the rest of us. Blackmailing to get undue advantages won't work

They used to negotiate, until Omenka betrayed them in 1884 during the Biafran campaign against the bakassi peninsula, they adopted the threat and ultimatum approach ever since. grin grin

This warning is long overdue.
Ipork piglets say the want their own country.
Yet they turn around to subtly support PDP while they also demand to produce the next president.
U hate the country yet wants rule over it to be handed over to u on a platter.

Oga how did the north get the presidency in 2015?

Have you forgotten all the threats from the core north?

They threatened that Nigeria would cease to exist if they did not get power.

How can you also explain that boko haram which hitherto was being handled by the police suddenly transformed into a large organised fighting unit capable of attacking military formations and ceasing towns after Jonathan took over power?

Boko haram violence was a major tool the north used to get back power and you know it.

I am not supporting threats or violence but we must say the truth!

Interesting!! The man should clap for himself. So the whole heated up statements made by the current president and Junaid Mohammed of "dogs and baboons being soaked in blood" and "making Nigeria ungovernable" aren't 'violent blackmail'? I never knew violent blackmail had different meaning for different ethnic groups.

The Igbo held sway in the past regime for five years.
So it's no more Niger Delta that ruled or held sway or whatever he wants to use to cover his intentions but Igbos yet when the Igbos clamour for Biafra including their kins from ND, they'll call it land grabbing and accuse them of trying to steal oil. How convenient!!! Accuse them of ruling Nigeria for five years and still accuse them of land grabbing.

If majority of the Igbo believe in a country of their own, they would not settle and invest in other people’s land more than in their own land.
I thought it was One Nigeria that we were practising? I thought with lumping people of diverse backgrounds and cultures together, we were trying to become a nation? Did the Igbos not go to their lands but were forced to live in Nigeria after a three years civil war and brutal massacre?

Be that as it may, presidents coming from certain regions haven't really helped that region. I mean, previous administrations have attested to this. The Igbos only want a country where meritocracy is known over mediocrity, where life is sacred and not just cheap, where hard work is rewarded, where religion is not the ultimate.

You are truly shameless.

Was it Nigeria that started the war by the mass killing of Igbos in the north thereafter marched their soldiers and tanks eastwards?

Gbam!

God bless you.

We all remember all the threats from the north which gave them the presidency they have today.

These people are truly shamless.

Nzeogwu from Delta masterminded a coup, it was called Igbo coup.

When it is time for problem they describe the Niger Deltans as Igbos but when it is about oil they quickly remind you that Niger Delta is not Igbo.
