Some communities in Benue state are currently in mourning after an alleged attack by Fulani herdsmen.

Currently, not less than 30 bodies of killed indigenes and residents, including that of the secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Buruku local government area, Mr Ter Ashirga, have been recovered

The dead, according to the New Telegraph, include a tax collector and four refugees.

They were allegedly killed on Sunday at Abuku, a crossing point on River Buruku, and dumped at the bank of the river.

The APC chieftain was allegedly murdered when the Fulani herdsmen stormed his village at Mbagbaan, Tombo in Buruku. The report said he was shot alongside some of his kinsmen.

After his death, the village was razed down making many inhabitants to flee leaving their farmlands. After the attack, the herdsmen reportedly brought their cattle into the farmland to eat up what was left.

It was learnt that over 3,000 houses were deserted with the inhabitants leaving their properties and foodstuff.

The report said those who fled the troubled area are now camped in Gboko, the traditional headquarters of the Tiv nation, and Katsina-Ala, as refugees.

The scene has been visited by Governor Samuel Ortom and members of the state security and executive council for an assessment of the security and humanitarian situation.

Condemning the killing, the governor called on the people to avoid any revenge. He also called on the federal government to assist the state to end the crisis.

The governor tasked the people of the state to always report any suspicion and further attacks.

With all sincerity I think the governor of Benue state is as useless as the p psychology.... what happened to the oath he sworn to protect the lives and property of the good people of Benue state?why not take the necessary steps to checkmate and curb this menace....the other time after the military action that left some dead,he couldn't say anything rather than as the community to provide those that were involved....Such a weakling!

All through the time while Buhari was away i din't hear of one single herdsmen attack until when he came back and resumed office, upon all the attacks by the herdsmen not even a single soul has been arrested by the security operatives in the country, not even one.

I guess our government need someone to remind them that one of the reasons we elect them is for them to protect our lives. Why is playing politics with citizens lives has now become normal in this country and no one is saying anything against it both at the federal and states level? Or are these abnormalities that is taking place everyday one of there election manifestos for we the electorate?

Thats the annoying thing about these stories. They have some crazy number of people getting killed yet it's like these killers disappear in black smoke. There's never follow up stories saying who they arrested.

What are these communities waiting for to even defend themselves?... What's the governor and chief security officer of this state doing to protect his people?.... How can a governor be so useless?... All it would take is for the governor of the state to take charge, take a hard stance against this menace (he can consult Fayose) and this nonsense will be a thing of the past. Or do they have to wait till they get annihilated before they form formidable vigilante groups to expel herdsmen from their state?

Can the Benue state governor not ban grazing in his state? What nonsense is this? Benue people must be really foolish and docile to keep getting themselves killed like this. Buhari enough is enough. The Nigerian state ( especially this Fulani govt) has been known to tolerate/condone violence.
It's always the statement they make, yet nothing is done. #Self-defense

Ortom is the most useless governor in Nigeria! Because he doesnt want to upset his fellow apc rats he does nothing while these people just slaughter his people every month! I pray one of his family gets killed every time there's an attack and we will see if he will still keep quiet.

I use to think same of this man unto I heard him speak of this menace in Tiv Tor coronation. He talked extensively including on why we need to adopt modern ranching. No more free grazing. Even On TV I can feel his anger. I guess he's peaceful by nature and want to follow the rule of law. Benue needs a hot head as Governor.

u don't know how this herdsmen operate .they will notify the army of a community that they want to attack then the army will go and disarm that community by seizing their guns then within two weeks the herdsmen will attack the community

Till Benue people realise that in 40 years their state will completely be owned by Fulanis then they might have the balls to start protecting themselves with all they have ...
