Days after the reports that men from the 174 Battalion from Odogunyan, Ikorodu allegedly battered a woman, Ruth Orji, became public knowledge, the Nigerian Army HQ has swiftly reacted to the incident.

Condemning the actions of the officers involved in the assault which occurred on Sunday, March 12, 2017, the body revealed in a statement obtained by InsideMainland that the "six soldiers are being detained while investigations continue on the matter."

The statement continues that "a Board of Enquiry has been constituted by the Commander 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Elias Attu to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident, determine the level of soldiers involvement, submit its findings and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures which will be communicated."
