Parcel Bomb Rocks Lagos Media House But for providence yesterday, some staff of Superscreen Television, in Lagos, were almost given the dastardly “Dele Giwa Treatment”. Unknown persons sent bombs carefully wrapped inside gift items to an undisclosed top management staff of the television station but one of the bombs exploded before the ‘messenger of death” got to the office. The unidentified young man bearing the destructive message, however, fell victim of the evil act. The bomb exploded as he was trying to locate the exact office of the private television outfit, in the process cutting off his two hands. Superscreen Television is located on the ninth floor of Brown’s House located on No 151 Ikorodu Road, Onipanu Bus Stop, Lagos. The station is believed to be owned by the President of Believers Loveworld aka Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. Former Newswatch Editor-in-Chief, Giwa, was killed via a parcel bomb delivered to his Ikeja, Lagos residence on October 19, 1986. Twenty-three years after, Giwa’s death remains a misery as those behind the dastardly act have not been brought to book. THISDAY learnt yesterday’s incident, which occurred at about 11.30 am, shook the entire 10-storey building into pandemonium as everybody around had to scamper for safety. It was gathered that the unidentified young man bearing the destructive gift item was having a conversation on his mobile telephone probably with those who sent him as he was approaching the second floor of the building through the staircase when one of the bombs was said to have exploded on his face. The man was thrown off balance by the impact of the explosion. Eyewitnesses said he was also carrying a polythene bag containing three unexploded bombs, which also fell off his hands. Policemen attached to Ilupeju Police Station, Onipanu and their counterparts from the Rapid Response Squad raced to the venue of the blast following a distressed call from the area. THISDAY learnt that policemen have, however whisked away the unidentified man for questioning over the development. But he was said to have been taken first to a hospital in the neighborhood for treatment. Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba, has declared the building safe after staff of the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Nigerian Police had visited the building and detonated the remaining three unexploded bombs. He told journalists that the situation had been put under control by officers and men of the Nigeria Police. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=162621 |

Shocking stuff. I think it's unlikely that the unfortunate messenger had anything to do with it. I do hope he's given adequate treatment before our beloved NPF get to work on him! Re: Dele Giwa, that is truly a sad chapter in Nigeria's history. A very sad chapter indeed. I wonder if the truth will ever be known in our generation. |

Well to me,dis is absolute rubbish cos if a buliding dat contained such important "stuffs" supposed 2 be monitored adequately by securities. This would hav been another xmas normal nigeria news cos by dis time every year tragedy always occur. What type of wicked minds do we hav in dis so called-to-rebrand country where everybody(incusive of govt representatives)does something n go free of charge, afterall 2 years in VIP jail,u came out n contiune ur doing. If we hav trained agency, perhaps we will be more secure than USA. |

Now, that's what I call improvement. Well the politicians should now be careful with their evil deeds. Henceforth they may start taking on them. |

In my opinion, Nigeria is ripe for suicide bombers. A story like this I guess should set the ball rolling. Maybe we can start from Anambra elections next year. |

rasputinn: - what was the impact of the bombs on the building. - where did they dispose of the bombs. - Are they building inspectors or how come they were able to declare the building safe when a bomb was supposed to have gone off there. - Am not suprised that some people are still determined to kill people in this day and age. |

It is an unfortunate trend but what is even more tragic is the fact that our so called Security agencies have grown slack since the military found their true place in a democratic setting. A police cannot tell the difference between bomb-making ingredients and baby milk. Our SSS are busy guarding key political figures to know the true status of our security situation. You can go to a small pharmacy and obtain ingredients to make a powerful home-made bomb or even a secondary school or university laboratory with little effort. with google and some creativity, an arm-chair terrorist can take his game further. It is sad, that our inefficiencies in governance have leaked our collective arses to other dangers |

Now am wondering what kind of bomb would detonate at a very close range and leave the person still standing and living too. |

@ wrex i agree with you @ nairalanders this is good development for our country. With this bombing we will no longer fold arms watching leaders steal our money. Also this will lead to an avenue of job creation.it's no joke it's reality. |
