Shocking moment tourist has his leg bitten off by a crocodile after going for a swim in African

The holidaymaker was swimming in the lake in the Kalangala part of Uganda, East Africa, once the crocodile clamped its jaws around his left leg as he enjoyed a paddle

The beast bit through flesh and bone, severing the limb just underneath the knee.

In the disturbing image, the person sits in a swimming of blood as local men and a person in the Uganda Peoples'Defence Forces – the country's army – help him.

The unidentified tourist, a middle-aged white man who had been wearing a couple of black shorts, is apparently unconscious from the shock and blood loss. His current condition is not known.

The massive Lake Victoria is among the African Great Lakes and drains in to the River Nile.

It's the world's largest tropical lake and was named after Queen Victoria by British explorers in 1858.
