Fallout of controversial court judgment: Ibori eyes presidency
• National Daily's exclusive cover story affirmed as court squashes Ibori's case

By ZUBI NWANLIOGU

FORMER governor of Delta State James Onanefe Ibori is no doubts Nigeria's Christmas boy.
The tall and handsome debonair who rose from an obscure wanna-be politician to become the godfather of so many Nigeria's politicos and ipso factor the avant-garde of the troubled Niger Delta region maybe looking for the world famous Santa Claus to collaborate with him in singing the hilarious carol in celebration of his escape from the stranglehold of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

But has the foxy and astute politician from Oghara in Ethiope local government council of Delta State escaped from the scandal associated with his alleged financial crime and the impediment to his burgeoning political career?
Political observers who are abreast with Nigeria's democratic history may not be very much surprised that last week Ibori was seemingly left of the hook by an Asaba High Court that quashed the 170-count charges against him based on adjudged legal technicalities raising an outcry that the substance of the case was never addressed by the prosecution and defense council.

Critical observers believe that the Asaba High Court and the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Michael Aaondoakaa, deliberately relied on the loopholes created in the Ibori case to give their favourite politician a clean bill and subsequently assist in projecting his much taunted agenda to become the Vice President under a northern President and ultimately the President after the north must have completed its term in 2015 according to the zoning formula.

Ibori had uncompromisingly nursed a dream to become the President of Nigeria. His ambition did not sprout from the cradle of his political pedigree. It all started when he became the governor of one of the states of the oil rich Niger Delta. The revenue that accrued to him as a result of the principle of national resources and the stupendous monies he allegedly made from business activities in the region made him not only wealthy but an Economic and political beautiful bride.

National Daily sources disclosed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo considered Ibori as the real Capone of the Niger Delta politics despite the fact that former Bayelsa State governor, Diepriye Alamieyeseigha is from the Ijaw ethnic Nationality which is perceived as the nadir of the Niger Delta region.

Anything's possible. If the likes of IBB can join the race, i see no reason why Ibori should be an exception.
