Small country, big guns

At just over 8,000 square miles in size, Israel is, geographically speaking, smaller than New Jersey. But the military has some serious firepower.

INS Rahav submarine: No snorkel necessary

This new variation on the Dolphin 2 class of diesel-electric submarine has state-of-the-art Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP). AIP allows these submarines to remain silently submerged and undetected for up to 30 days at a time.

INS Rahav submarine: Nuke ready

The Rahav (which is the Hebrew name for Neptune, the Roman god of the sea) can hold up to 45 soldiers and launch cruise or nuclear missiles at targets several hundred miles away.

Unmanned ground vehicles

Israel recently deployed a fleet of semi-autonomous pickup trucks to patrol the Gaza border. The trucks conduct video surveillance and gather data 24 hours a day, in any weather conditions. Human operators can take control of the trucks, called Border Protectors, from a safe distance, away from snipers and missiles.

The EyeBall

The EyeBall helps soldiers assess the danger inside enclosed spaces. The device, just larger than a tennis ball, transmits 360-degree video as well as audio and infrared imaging to soldiers outside, allowing them to strategize attacks before entering dangerous places.

VIPER (Virtual, Intelligent, Portable Robot)

The remote-controlled VIPER can change its shape to traverse rocky terrain, fit into tiny spaces or even climb stairs. It has GPS as well as cameras and microphones. And it can be equipped with a grenade launcher or a miniature Uzi.

Skylark drone

This drone is lightweight, nearly silent and ready for flight in less than eight minutes. It has three hours of flight time, during which it transmits video, day or night, in any weather conditions.

Merkava tank: Missile defense shield

The Merkava tank has been a part of the Israeli arsenal since 1979, but the newest model, the Merkava Mark IV, is much more advanced. This model also has a missile defense system called Trophy, also known as ASPRO-A, which automatically neutralizes missiles headed toward the tank with a shotgun-like blast.

Smart helmets

These helmets not only act as goggles and oxygen masks, but also integrate projection technology showing altitude, radar signals and targeting data on a heads-up display.

The Iron Dome: A mobile defense system

The Iron Dome is probably Israel's most famous defense network. Most of the Iron Dome system is made up of a series of mobile ground-to-air long-range missile stations.

David's Sling: Maneuverable missiles

Unlike the blast warheads loaded on Iron Dome units, the missiles on David's Sling are two-stage, hit-to-kill maneuverable Stunner missiles that are designed to neutralize threats without any extra explosives.

David's Sling: Covers a lot of ground

David's Sling is a new addition to Israel's air defense system. This surface-to-air defensive missile system is stationary, unlike the mobile Iron Dome units, and can protect the entire country from air attacks from a permanent location. It was declared on active deployment in early April, 2017.

F-35 Lightning II Fighter Jet: A pricey plane

The newest fighter jet in the Israeli air force is Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II Fighter Jet. The F-35 program is the most expensive weapons system in military history.

The C-130J 'Samson'

This transport plane can travel almost 2,500 miles in one trip carrying 94 paratroopers with all of their gear. It also makes midair refueling significantly easier; it can fly closer to smaller aircraft while supplying gasoline.

Big, powerful, accurate and safe

The IAF purchased the long version of the Hercules C-130J from Lockheed- Martin which allows for an improved carrying capacity: instead of 64 paratroopers the short version can carry, the Hercules C-130J can accommodate in its cargo hold 94 paratroopers and their equipment. Alternatively, the cargo hold can accommodate four military SUVs instead of three, or transport 128 soldiers.

High tech

A tour of the cockpit of the Hercules C-130J reveals cutting-edge technology: in addition to the digital screens and the advanced displays, the new plane is equipped with new systems that streamline the aircraft maintenance work and allow the technicians to gain information on the routine operations and the malfunctions.

A unique Israeli version

Now that the “Samson” has arrived in Israel, many more computer systems designed by Israel will be added to the plane. These Israeli systems will assist the “Samson” in its jobs of transportation of troops, rescue, and efficient and safe supply.

The mid-air refueling ability of IAF aircraft will be easier than ever before with the coming of the “Samson.” “The ‘Samson’ has the ability to fly closer to other aircraft in order to supply gasoline, making much easier this delicate operation,” said Colonel A.

With its great holding capacity and technological innovation, this new giant of the skies will bring a major strategic advantage, which will strengthen the IDF’s ability to carry out its mission of protecting Israel’s borders and citizens.

The obsession with settlements is certain to divert attention from core issues, such as Palestinian recognition of a Jewish Israel. Many Palestinians continue to regard Israel as one big settlement that needs to be removed from the Middle East.

Even those who say they have accepted the two-state solution are not prepared to recognize any Jewish link to or history in the land.

In the view of Al-Husseini, Palestinians refuse to acknowledge a Jewish state because they believe this would grant legitimacy to "Jews' rights to the land of Palestine" and undermine the Palestinian demand for the "right of return" for millions of refugees into Israel.

Israeli Arab leaders are betraying their constituencies by privileging the perceived interests of Palestinian Arabs, while Palestinian Arab leaders are betraying their constituencies by denying any link between Jews and the land. This stance makes peace a non-starter.

Israel as a Jewish state remains anathema to the Palestinian community. This is a top-down attitude, communicated on a constant basis by Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state is based on the argument that such a move would mean giving up the "right of return" for millions of "refugees" into Israel. This refusal is also based on the continued denial of any historic Jewish connection to the land.

In recent weeks, the PA president has once again reiterated his strong opposition to recognizing Israel as a Jewish state.

The Palestinian refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state is one of the main obstacles to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Settlement construction complaints are nothing more than a Palestinian Authority smokescreen.

Jerusalem is a city located on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. One of the oldest cities in the world, Jerusalem was named as "Urusalima" on ancient Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets, probably meaning "City of Shalem" after a Canaanite deity, during the early Canaanite period (approximately 2400 BCE). During the Israelite period, significant construction activity in Jerusalem began in the 9th century BCE (Iron Age II), and in the 8th century the city developed into the religious and administrative center of the Kingdom of Judah.[5] It is considered a holy city in the three major Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Financial and political repercussions of the second lebanon war

The fighting resulted in a huge financial setback for Lebanon, with an official estimate of a fall in growth from +6% to 2% and US$5 Billion (22% of GDP)[337] in direct and indirect costs, while the cost for Israel was estimated at US$3.5 billion.[338] Indirect costs to Israel include a cut in growth by 0.9%.[339] and the cost to tourism was estimated at 0.4% of Israel's GDP in the following year.[340] According to Imad Salamey in The Government and Politics of Lebanon, the main casualty was the fragile unity between Lebanon's sectarian and political groups.

hezbollah secretary general comments on the second lebanon war below

Hezbollah would not have abducted two Israel Defense Forces soldiers on July 12 had it known that the action would lead to war in Lebanon, the movement's secretary general Hassan Nasrallah said in an interview on Lebanon's NTV Sunday.
"We did not think that the capture would lead to a war at this time and of this magnitude. You ask me if I had known on July 11 ... that the operation would lead to such a war, would I do it? I say no, absolutely not," he said.
Nasrallah also said he did not believe there would be a second round of fighting with Israel, and stated that Hezbollah would adhere to the cease-fire despite what he called Israeli provocation.
The interview with the TV station that had supported Hezbollah during the war was held at Nasrallah's hideout, and according to the female reporter that did the interview, she had been rushed to the location on very short notice.

lastly the state of israel did not use all her military might and if they did lebanon would be a waste land by now and mind you the state of israel was at war with a terror organisation operating from lebanon, even with the little thing they did during the war the whole world was begging israel to stop hezbolahs secretary general comments above says it all and again the state of israel grab no lands.please go and read well about jerusalem and then come back or study the israeli/palestine conflict, but if you cant read then watch a palestine man say it himself

July 22 also marks the first time that the United States responded militarily to the conflict. Late on the day of the 21st, the White House received a request from Olmert and the IDF for the provision of large amounts of precision-guided munitions–another telltale sign that the IAF had failed in its mission to degrade Hezbollah military assets significantly during the opening rounds of the war.

The request was quickly approved and the munitions were shipped to Israel beginning on the morning of July 22. Senior Pentagon officials were dismayed by the shipment, as it meant that Israel had expended most of its munitions in the war’s first 10 days–an enormous targeting expenditure that suggested Israel had abandoned tactical bombing of Hezbollah assets and was poised for an onslaught on what remained of Lebanon’s infrastructure, a strategy that had not worked during World War II, when the United States and Britain destroyed Germany’s 66 major population centers without any discernable impact either on German morale or military capabilities.

But there was little grumbling in the Pentagon, though one former serving officer observed that the deployment of US munitions to Israel was reminiscent of a similar request made by Israel in 1973–at the height of the Yom Kippur War. “This can only mean one thing,” this officer said at the time. “They’re on the ropes.” grin

In spite of its deep misgivings about the Israeli response (and the misgivings, though unreported, were deep and significant–and extended even into the upper echelons of the US Air Force), senior US military officers kept their views out of public view. And for good reason: criticism of Israel for requesting a shipment of arms during the 1973 war led to the resignation of then Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) chairman General George Brown. Brown was enraged that US weapons and munitions were being sent to Israel at the same time that American commanders in Vietnam were protesting a lack of supplies in their war in Southeast Asia.

The current JCS chairman, Peter Pace, who remained notably silent during the Israeli-Hezbollah war, understood history, saluted, and remained silent. But the JCS and senior military commanders were not the only US officials who were worried about Israel’s performance. While the new US munitions were winging their way to Israel (via Prestwick, Scotland), intelligence officials were conducting initial assessments of the war’s opening days, including one noting that in spite of the sustained Israeli air offensive, Al-Manar was still broadcasting in Beirut, though the IAF had destroyed the broadcast bands of Lebanon’s other major networks. (This would remain true throughout the war–Al-Manar never went off the air.) How effective could the Israeli air campaign have been if they couldn’t even knock out a television station’s transmissions? grin

The call-up of Israel’s reserves was meant to buttress forces already fighting in southern Lebanon, and to add weight to the ground assault. On July 22, Hezbollah units of the Nasr Brigade fought the IDF street-to-street in Maroun al-Ras. While the IDF claimed at the end of the day that it had taken the town, it had not. The fighting had been bloody, but Hezbollah fighters had not been dislodged. Many of the Nasr Brigade’s soldiers had spent countless days waiting for the Israeli assault and, because of Hezbollah’s ability to intercept IDF military communications, Israeli soldiers bumped up against units that were well entrenched.

IDF detachments continually failed to flank the defenders, meeting counterpunches toward the west of the city. Special three-man hunter-killer teams from the Nasr Brigade destroyed several Israeli armored vehicles during the fight with light man-made anti-tank missiles. “We knew they were going to do this,” Ilay Talmor, an exhausted Israeli second lieutenant, said at the time. “This is territory they say is theirs. We would do the same thing if someone came into our country.” Hahahahahahaaha! Cowards! grin

IDF commanders were also disturbed by the performance of their troops, noting a signal lack of discipline even among its best-trained regular soldiers. The reserves were worse, and IDF commanders hesitated to put them into battle.

On July 25, Olmert’s strategy of backing down from a claimed goal to destroy Hezbollah was in full force. The Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz was the bearer of these tidings, saying that Israel’s current goal was to create a “security zone” in southern Lebanon. His words were accompanied by a threat: “If there is not a multinational force that will get in to control the fences, we will continue to control with our fire towards anyone that gets close to the defined security zone, and they will know that they can be hurt.”

Gone quite suddenly was a claim that Israel would destroy Hezbollah; gone too was a claim that only NATO would be acceptable as a peacekeeping unit on the border. On July 25, Israel also reported that Abu Jaafar, a commander of Hezbollah’s “central sector” on the Lebanese border, was killed “in an exchange of fire” with Israeli troops near the border village of Maroun al-Ras–which had not yet been taken. The report was not true. Abu Jaafar made public comments after the end of the war. grin

Later on July 25, during US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit to Jerusalem, the Israeli military fought its way into Bint Jbeil, calling it “Hezbollah’s terror capital”. The fight for Bint Jbeil went on for nine days. But it remained in Hezbollah hands until the end of the conflict. By then, the town had been destroyed, as Hezbollah fighters were able to survive repeated air and artillery shellings, retreating into their bunkers during the worst of the air and artillery campaign, and only emerging when IDF troops in follow-on operations tried to claim the city.

The Hezbollah tactics were reminiscent of those followed by the North Vietnamese Army during the opening days of the Vietnam conflict–when NVA commanders told their troops that they needed to “ride out the bombs” and then fight the Americans in small unit actions. “You must grab them by their belt buckles,” a Vietnamese commander said in describing these tactics.

On July 27, in response to the failure of its units to take these cities, the Israeli government agreed to a call-up of three more reserve divisions–a full 15,000 troops. By July 28, however, it was becoming clear just how severe the failure of the IAF had been in its attempts to stop Hezbollah rocket attacks. On that day, Hezbollah deployed a new rocket, the Khaibar-1, which hit Afula. grin

On July 28, the severity of Israel’s intelligence failures finally reached the Israeli public. On that day, Mossad officials leaked information that, by their estimate, Hezbollah had not suffered a significant degradation in its military capabilities, and that the organization might be able to carry on the conflict for several more months. The IDF disagreed, stating that Hezbollah had been severely damaged. The first cracks in the Israeli intelligence community were beginning to show.

arafat never wanted peace, those peace process was just a smoke screen, wonder why it didnt last?he started and planned the Second Intifada..israel will continue to build on her land,i have posted videos of imams saying jerusalem belong to jews, jordan is palestine, israel withdrew from gaza because of the pressure from the world and we can all see the result, the palestinians wants the state of israel to go back to indefensible borders and it can never work.the state of israel can allow a future demilitarized palestine state and remember israel is surrounded by arab states.israel did not give hamas a chance to be popular they held an election and the terror group won, please watch the video and you will understand better

Now Arafat’s widow Suha, in an interview which was aired on Dubai TV on December 16, 2012 confirmed the Israeli narrative and said that Arafat had told her in July 2000 that he was going to launch the Second Intifada.

Following are excerpts from an interview with Suha Arafat, widow of Yasser Arafat, which was aired on Dubai TV on December 16, 2012:
Source: MEMRI

Suha Arafat: Yasser Arafat had made a decision to launch the Intifada. Immediately after the failure of the Camp David [negotiations], I met him in Paris upon his return, in July 2001 [sic]. Camp David has failed, and he said to me: “You should remain in Paris.” I asked him why, and he said: “Because I am going to start an Intifada. They want me to betray the Palestinian cause. They want me to give up on our principles, and I will not do so. I do not want Zahwa’s friends in the future to say that Yasser Arafat abandoned the Palestinian cause and principles. I might be martyred, but I shall bequeath our historical heritage to Zahwa and to the children of Palestine.”

The first cracks in the Israeli intelligence community were beginning to show.
grin cheesy grin

Arab Rejection of ’47 Partition Plan Was Error, Palestinian Leader Says

The Palestinian president said Friday that the Arab world had erred in rejecting the United Nations’ 1947 plan to partition Palestine into a Palestinian and a Jewish state. The Palestinian and Arab refusal set off widespread fighting, then Arab militaries attacked Israel after it declared independence the following year, a war the Arab states lost. “It was our mistake,” the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, above, said in a rare interview on Israeli television. “It was an Arab mistake as a whole.” Referring to Israel, he added, “But do they punish us for this mistake for 64 years?”

when the brits shared palestine, the israelis accepted and the palestines rejected and all arab armys iraq.jordan, egypt, syria attacked israel and israel defeated them all,if only they accepted they would have a state now.who do they blame now?

masseratti:
then where are the Philistines, samarians of the bible,David ruled over the Philistines and isreal, palestinians claims they are the old Philistines just like the Isrealis/Jews of today claim to be the old Isrealites.
Religious claim of the various Abrahamic religions shouldnt be the basis of no peace, buhda came from India that didnt make it more popular than hindu, christ was a Jew that didnt make xtianity more popular than judaism in Isreal.
My own opinion is that the Isreali govt is just playing popularity politics serving the interest of the ultra conservatist ,just like you have the extremist in the muslim world,if America want peace today and its congress backs it,Isreal will have no choice than to shift ground for peace to reign, those people has same right to exist on where they are just like the land the Isrealis are too.

The American economy is controlled majorly by wealthy Jewish decisions...

What premeditated the creation of an Israeli nation in the first place prior 1947? It is this same Jewish objective.

America cannot want peace because it will create the exact opposite of pre 1947 objective. Which is to return, re-create and defend a central physical structure of government and sovereignty of a once powerful Jewish nation, where ALL Jewish people can call home(Zion) as it had been before they became scattered in all nations of the world.
