Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON) yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to be deterred in his drive to ensure autonomy for local government areas in the country. The association also advocated the need for a representative of former local government chairmen to attend the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting. This was contained in a communiqué jointly signed by Albert Ashipa and Aliyu Gurin, president and national secretary of ASELGON, after the quarterly meeting of the association’s National Working Committee held in Sagamu, Ogun State. The group bemoaned how state Houses of Assembly had allegedly connived with state governors to thwart effort on constitutional amendment for council autonomy. ASELGON urged Buhari to fashion out ways of tapping from the wealth of ‘political experiences’ of past council chairmen in the 774 council areas in the country.
