Briggs, Others Seek 100% Resource Control By South-south, South-east. by DocHMD: 10:44am On Apr 20, 2017
Discussants at a summit in Owerri
have canvassed 100 per cent resource control by the people of the South-East and South-South. Those who spoke at the summit with the theme, ‘’Unlocking the potentials of South-East/South-South Nigeria,’’ organised by a group, South-East/South-South
Network (SESSNet), held at Owerri, capital city of Imo State, included an environmental activist, Miss Ankio Briggs; erstwhile Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, represented by his Chief of Staff while in office, Prof. Stella
Okunna; a former member of the
1979 and 1999 constitutional
drafting committees, Elder Uma
Eleazu; a member of the political
affairs committee of the group,
Tobechukwu Ezekwe; an activist,
Olu Martin; the convener of the
summit, Daniel Elombah, among
others. Obi insisted that good governance be entrenched in political
administration of the governors in
the zones, adding that transparency, cutting of cost, responsiveness and equity, among others, should be implemented by the governors.

Briggs said that the outcome of the
committee on restructuring of the
country, which turned in their
report in 2013, must be
implemented.
She opined that any request from
any quarters requiring her to be
patriotic as a Nigerian would only
have her nod when 100 per cent
ownership and control of
resources in the 11 states of the
two zones were authorised by the
Federal Government.
The environmental activist,
therefore, called for a collective
resolve to ensure that less
attention is given to other 22 states
with increased attention to the 11
states in the two zones.
Eleazu, who regretted that about
3.8 million graduates were
unemployed in the country, chided
different youth groups in the zone
agitating for same goals, warning
that they would not achieve
anything as they speak in different
discordant tunes.
The convener, Elomba, said the
import of the congregation was to
discuss and streamline with
direction the future of the young
ones in the zone who should be
prepared to take over from the
old ones with renewed agitation
for their political rights.
In another development,
participants of the Nigerian Air
Force (NAF) Air War College
Course 1 of 2016 yesterday
concluded environmental study
tour of Enugu State aimed at
understudying the socio-economic
and geo-political formations of the
state.
The four-day tour, which is part of
the college’s requirement to
consolidate participants’
knowledge on socio-economic and
geo-political study, was themed:
“Socio-economic and
Infrastructural Development
Impact on Poverty Status.”
The Commandant, Air Vice Marshal
John Baba, who led the team,
stated that participants were in the
state to expand their theoretical
knowledge.

These people are not serious or is it that the report isn't complete.

Nigeria cannot give any state 100% control of its resources atleast for now. They were supposed to be asking for atleast an increase of their derivation allocation from 13% - 23% (adding the 10% oil producing community fund). They should ask for what is possible nah.

They didn't even talk about economic integration of the 2 zones. Like asking the FG to hands off rail and FG roads for it to be concessioned to REPUTABLE FOREIGN FIRMS WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. We can also tap into the diaspora funds to develop the infrastructures of the zone.

Not even a word about a viable working seaport close to Aba, Nnewi and Onitsha market clusters.

This report is rubbish.

The only thing you went to the Confab to ask for is ONE MORE STATE. no more, no less. grin

We started being like others. When I enumerated the story of our position, Enugu immediately said they were no more following the regional agitation; they are now following Ebonyi for Centre and States.

So the entire committee agreed that it is better to have a centre and states. However, when they asked other delegates in that committee, Peter Odili is from Southsouth and all members from the zone said they preferred states. So it was a national issue.

The whole Northern states said they are not for a region or zone. So, our position was popular at the end of the day. While we were at the zonal level, we were like a minority, at the national level we carried the day.

It's a very recent news, so it's clear what you asked for. ONE MORE STATE.

This is the presentation of the SW at the Confab, show me the SE agenda. grin grin

Presenting the 15-page draft Yoruba Agenda, General Alani Akinrinade said it centred around a new Nigeria consisting of a central union/federal government and six regional governments (based on the current six geopolitical zones – including all other Yorubas outside the imposed artificial boundaries, that is to say, in Edo, Delta, Kogi and Kwara) operating federal and regional constitutions.

Other areas, he said, were negotiated legislative exclusive, concurrent and residual list, the Westminster model of parliamentary government, the right to self-determination up to the right to secede, and a just and equitable taxation system that will make the federating units equal and coordinating at the federal level.

The Yoruba Agenda also raised 15 other issues to be addressed like new people’s constitution, true federalism, regionalism with fiscal federalism in varying degrees, role of traditional rulers, status of Lagos and Federal Capital Territory among others.

Speaking, Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi had earlier said that contrary to the view expressed by President Goodluck Jonathan that the 1914 amalgamation of Northern and Southern Protectorates by Lord Luggard was not a mistake, the amalgamation had earned the country several pains and calamities.

“As you all know, the Yoruba people, like every other ethnic nationality that makes up this country did not willingly join the behemoth that was to later become Nigeria.

“We were coerced by the British overlords in the evergreen magical marriage of inconvenience called amalgamation of 1914.

“Since then, Nigeria has presented as the forcefully conjured seeds in the walnut pod, what our people call ‘Omo inu awusa’; different world views, different ideologies, different cultures, different political beliefs, yet we were soldered into one component by the British colonial masters,” Ajimobi said.

Stop diverting the question, if a new state is given and resource control is instituted, the new state will have to depend on its own resources and will make it better than your brown roof enclaves. Igbos are that confident.

Now back to the question-Why do you fight against resource control so your oshogbo mouth can drink oil from the land of strangers that you hate? cheesy grin

You have no shame. I thought you will get small sense today, but no, it's the same gibberish.
Why was the SE against regionalism and TRUE FISCAL FEDERALISM -which automatically guarantee Resource control BUT WAS AT THE CONFAB TO ASK FOR ADDITIONAL STATE?.

Madam Aniko-Briggs is just another bitter old woman that has not been able to get pass GEJ loss and she found a ready made collabo in the SE.

Meanwhile, come to this thread, and get some spanking on the bicycle seat thing on your shoulder grin grin grin

Why can't individuals own resources? Why is it only option states or federal government? Something more akin to United States would be better. The only reason Nigeria has 100% ownership control is due to colonial influences where the colonial government was trying milk us.

Obi insisted that good governance be entrenched in political
administration of the governors in
the zones, adding that transparency, cutting of cost, responsiveness and equity, among others, should be implemented by the governors.

Very important I just wonder what he did when he was in office to futher this ideal.
