Reliability Of HIV Testing In Nigeria by Sweetwater2017: 4:23pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
Most of us have hard or read from various sources that there are different groups of HIV virus in circulation in Nigeria namely: HIV 1 Group M, O, N and P and HIV 2. Group B which has subtypes of A,B, C E, F, G, H, J and K is the most in circulation world wide . All the testing Assays have been manfactured based on the Groups M and O excluding groups N and P. The manufacturers of these tests has argued that groups N and P are rare yet they are in circulation in sub Sahara West Africa countries of Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and host of other countries. The question and big challenge is how reliable are the test in Nigeria if they can not dectate these N and P strains because the test designers did not include enzymes from these viruses. Please can some one preferably doctors on the forum to shade more light to this challege. If there are no test that can dectate these ones and there are in circulation, then WHO, CDC and NIGERIA Government are not helping a lot. Thank you. |
