The convicts, Joseph Moses, 24, Samuel Job, 19, Gideon Ode, 25, and Daniel Abraham, 24, were brought to the court on a four-count charge of armed robbery and conspiracy.


The prosecutor, Mrs Abdulrahman Temitope, had told the court that the convicts committed the offence on October 14, 2013 at about 8:00pm along Kajola expressway in Osogbo.


Temitope said the convicts conspired among themselves to rob one Abubakar Rauf of his motorcycle with registration number BDG 896 QB.


”The suspects conspired to attack the complainant with a knife and dangerous weapons collecting his motorcycle.


”They injured the complainant and also carted away his Bajaj motorcycle to their house before they were apprehended,” the prosecutor said.


Temitope said the crime committed had been a serial occurrence within the vicinity which had led to the death and missing of some persons.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 6 and is punishable under section 1 of the Robbery and Fire Arm (Special Provision) Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.



Counsel to the accused, Mr Jimmy Jones, however, pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy in her judgment.


Delivering judgment, Justice Olubunmi Ayoola, sentenced the convicts to death due to the magnitude of their crime, adding that the prosecutor had proved her case beyond any reasonable doubt.

Mba! they should have flown them to Disney land or an expensive resort in Las Vegas instead. Do you steal okadas? Or you will only consider it fair if they had killed their victim? Armed robbery is punishable by death in Naija. Just as carrying hard drugs to some countries is punishable by death. Fair sentence, they did not give punishment where it wasn't deserved. Not like they gave death sentence because they slaped a girl in the street or they pick pocketed someone.

For politicians to steal billions with his pen versus an armed robber visiting you and your family with knives, guns and machete one night, if you must chose one, which would you choose. I am sure if Amaechi or one of those billion thieves gives you a juicy contract where you will be paid from their pocket, you will not reject but if an armed robber brings a stolen okada for you to keep for a cut, you would most likely say No. That is to show you the gravity of armed robbery. Conscience knows that armed robbers are killers and rapists by the side. Although pen thieves deserve same justice as armed robbers too.

When I see news like this, I remember is high and mighty we see on TV.
