Rivers: Man, 74, kills sick daughter

A 74-year-old man who allegedly got tired of nursing his sick daughter has sent her to an early grave in Rumukpakani community in Rivers State . Apparently sick and tired of spending his time and money on the treatment of the 22-year-old daughter identified as Deborah Ebenezer, the father-from-hell was said to have carried her to the outskirts of the community and dumped her in a burrow pit.

She died inside the pit before help could reach her.

Already, the suspect has been picked from his Rumukpakani residence in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the suspect’s alleged sin caught up with him on the spot because unknown to him, a villager saw him commit the crime and raised alarm.

In no time, other villagers ran to the scene and later called in policemen who arrested him. Sources hinted that the deceased had been suffering from an undisclosed ailment for about five years. Expectedly, the illness strained the family purse as she was taken to several places for native and orthodox medical treatment to no avail.

Efforts to get the Police spokesperson in the State, Mrs Rita Inoma-Abbey (DSP) for comments on the incident drew blank as she was said to be in a meeting. However, dependable sources told Daily Sun that the man has made, “very useful statement” and would soon be prosecuted.
