Osinbajo or Atiku would make a great president.

I like Osinbajo's quiet hard work, and admire Atiku's accomplishments.

They are both very personable characters who have demonstrated great compentency, just have not been given the chance to shine.

Minus Rufai and Tinubu, the rest would make decent vice presidents.

Nice opinion maclatunji but you failed to mention the candidate with the highest odds in his favor. And that is Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
May I remind you Kwankwaso was the first runner up to PMB in the last primary election, second only to PMB. So with PMB out of the picture, most of northern delegates votes will most likely tilt towards Kwankwaso.
The only main factor that could work against Kwankwaso is if PMB is against his candidature.
On candidates like Muazu Babangida Aliyu you forgot this is a sitting governor who was defeated contesting senate seat by a Christian in a Muslim dominated zone. So you do the math how that person could make a wave in contesting president.

He is a contender surely but the power blocks in the APC seem not to favour him.

MAclatunji keeps living up to his reputation as an islamic fundamentalist and he has not disappointed so far.

Imagine, a list of potential candidates of the 2019 elections and Rochas Okorocha did not make the list despite the fact that he has made it known on several occasion that the only reason why he won't contest if if Buhari goes for a second term. But the OP totally ignored a man who has svcked several northern privates just to be considered Instead he filled the list with Alhaji this, Mohammed that. Most of which haven't even made the intention to run known. They only qualify because they're from the North and also Muslims. The only non muslim on list who should ordinarily be the favourite since he's currently the number two man, was pushed to the bottom. I think it's high time the security agents quiz Maclatunji because what's left is for him to start throwing bombs all over the place. A stitch in time saves nine.

As far the topic goes, if and should Buhari decide not to contest, the major contenders should either be between Atiku who has a huge following in the north and an Osibanjo who will enjoy the power of incumbency.

Even if Bihari pours all the anointing oil on osinbajo, there is no way he'll win. The north has sworn to retain it and there's no way you guys are getting it from them. Its not what you read online or newspaper, if you are on ground, you will understand.

Born and raised in the north. Parents from SS & SE. Inlaws from SW.

I know more than you can imagine. SS, is already in Osinbajo's palms ... with the maritime university, mass scholarships, modular refineries. Kachikwu's unmatched performance.

S.E votes . we don't need alot. SS votes, we will be grateful for whatever we get wink SW votes we can get as much as we need. NC, NE. NW we can get as much as we need.
Buhari and Tinubu are the most important cards here.

What I think? I think many of these guys ought to retire from politics 'cause majority(over 90%) of them have nothing new to offer us and that is a matter of fact. For lack of time,I won't mention names but we all know the truth about most of these political dinosaurs.

Wrong again. It is you who is tribalizing issues. Are you not the one insisting that APC and PDP will field northern candidates.

The only issue APC will have is Saraki, but his knees will be carved , soon enough.

Obasanjo would never have become president the second time if not for Atiku. The first time was Abdulsalam and IBB .

I still insist, for the APC. Osinbajo is the natural succesor. Alot of things have to be taken into consideration but no matter how you look at it . If Buhari will not contest in 2019. It is most likely Osinbajo, and if he does. 2023/2024 is certainly without a doubt Osinbajo.

Voting will go , wherever Buhari goes in 2019.
You're making wrong political permutation. If Buhari is still alive and not contesting, there's no way Osinbajo can contest, he would like the north to complete two terms in a row. He may be lucky to still retain his VPship if the power play does not consume him. 2019 game will be a surprising one because many would be cut to sizes. The BUHARI's league is very strong and want to be relevant in the scheme of polity.
The only thing that can make your postulation work is, if and only if Buhari is no more alive before the next election but if alive, he'll dictate the direction of whom to succeed him which I am 100percent sure it's going to be northerner. PDP is also fielding a northerner, that case is already settled by the party.

Sorry O. Rochas has deferred leadership of the Southeast APC to Senator Ken Nnamani but under the current state of Nigeria, not even he is a top contender for 2019.

He is a possible contender for Vice President though.

If Saraki ever tries to be president and succeeds, I'll renounce my Nigerian citizenship! Then I'll know that it is truly finished for Nigeria!

And why are all those in op's estimate Northerners? What's so wrong if an Igbo, Urhobo, Efik, etc, become president? Yet we claim to have democracy in Nigeria! Democracy of ethnicity!

if you like born inside Ganduje room, I am telling you situation report. These guys are hellbent in winning the presidency via any means possible. The conspiracy behind this guy's arrest and immediate release is part of 2019. Were you in Zone 1 police station around buk road on Monday when the police brought in sule lamido? I was there live and direct and I know what transpired. With many northern elites having to come around with their escorts to pacify the crowd.

I work with these people and I know what they discuss everyday about politics. The south have no chance abeg.

While Obasanjo killed Atiku's political career, Saraki killed his own political career by himself. El Rufai knows how to play the game well but Osibanjo has won the heart of Nigerians. Nowadays, the people decide who rules them so I see the odds favouring prof. Osibanjo.

All these analysis are off in my opinion.

Four contenders for 2019:

1. Atiku - well connected but has PDP baggage and corruption allegations. The country is divided and he will have problems getting southern votes.
Has issues with OBj

2. Tinubu - Connected, rich and has the machinery. Has all but declared his candidacy. He is not a northerner and so will have problems convincing the northern block. Seen as too progressive and independent.

3. Lamido -OBJ's candidate. Can inherit PDP machinery. However he is a lightweight.

4. Any other dark horse candidate the North presents or Buhari annoints.

Everyone else is a non -starter. (Osibanjo ? El-Rufai ? Kwakwanso ? CAPITAL NO)

This op remains a racist. What is the name of Babangida Aliyu doing in the list? For your information PYO stands zero chance of clinching the APC presidential ticket should Buhari refused to run due to Poor health. I know your list only considered South west and North, one wonders what BATs name is doing in the list. Very hate filled divisive and revisionist individual, @op am referring to you.

I said it before and I will say it again. "the north sleeps well when the west rules" but it will never sleep if the South East or any well known friend to the South East goes even an inch close to the presidency , the reason's are obvious and the present call for Biafra from the South East has made it so much so that several other ethnic groups would rather they never do.

@TonyeBarcanista claims that Osinbajo is not the favored candidate for 2019, however he has provided no facts. Let me start buy reminding you that the north supported Obasanjo twice for the presidency and Jonathan once (Jonathan fell out of their graces when it was evident, he favored the east more than the west and north and his lackadaisical attitude towards insurgency in Borno state)

PDP ticket will go to the north because they need it for votes. APC ticket will go to whomever will guarantee , stability after the presidential election has been won by the APC. APC has Buhari, so the idea of bringing a northern candidate would be stupidity when all Buhari as to do, is raise your hand in a crowd and say "namu ne". He can do this for anyone and they would win, this has been proven by the victory so many candidate won in the north simply because of Buhari. You need Buhari support to win 2019, not a northern candidate

V.P Osinbajo is the most favorite member of the APC at the moment after Buhari. Tinubu recently received accolades for states as far as Borno.
Lagos alone can provide funding for the entire 2019 presidential election and Lagos is Tinubu domain.

Osinbajo was placed as the acting president of the country for 50 + days and he performed excellently , he received accolades for several notable Nigerian's and has also been identified as the reason Nigeria's oil production numbers have risen.

Buhari has praised Osinbajo several times for his performance. He has given him various important roles in which his leadership skills have been displayed. As the V.P Osinbajo is the natural successor to Buhari - this is political tradition in Nigeria, and it is not about to change.

It is very unlikely that Buhari would annoint a candidate other than Osinbajo, even though he has done so several times indirectly. The recent would be Osinbajo attendace of Pres. Buhari P.A wedding several governors and traditional leaders from the north where in attendance. We all know wedding have always been an avenue for political meetings , introductions and affirmations. Osinbajo has made friends in areas where it matters - the North for the votes and the Niger-Delta for the oil.

@TonyeBarcanista need to tell us how Osinbajo would not emerge the Presidential candidate for 2019. Let us not forget, he is also married to Pa. Awolowo's grand daughter. This is a natural succession. PDP does not stand a chance.

Osinbanjo might even be Buhari running mate if he by chance runs in 2019 not to talk of a Buhari raising his hands as his choice in the event that he doesn't run.

The first consideration for Buhari is religion ...Nothing short of 8 solid years of a Muslim headship of Nigeria can assuage the feelings of the aristocratic north ... Performance is secondary

All those Nigerians cooking out to ask you to pray for the health of the president is not because they love him but because of how the core north sees the presidency...A mopol officer publicly declared he was going to kill if anything should happen to the president
