Early exit polls show the pro-EU centrist is set to win more than 60 per cent of the vote despite his campaign being rocked by a last-minute leak blamed on Russian hackers.

Emmanuel Macron is preparing to give a victory speech at the Louvre in Paris, while Eurosceptic populist Marine Le Pen is still hoping to pull off a shock victory.

French voters are today deciding between Mr Macron’s vision of a stronger EU and open economy and Ms Le Pen’s plans to shut France’s borders and exit the EU.

Mr Macron argues that the Front National candidate is a "high priestess of fear” who wants to take the "fatal step" of pulling France out of the eurozone.

In turn, Ms Le Pen has accused the former banker of supporting “savage globalisation” and a poor record as outgoing President Francois Hollande’s economy minister.
