SUBJECT: PAY UP ALL OUR STIPENDS

The above named group hereby write to demonstrate our deep concerns on the ongoing situation in the Npower scheme as designed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which gives clear picture of violation and indifference to the plight of volunteers in the Nigeria. The spirit and letter of the massive youth empowerment scheme has been thrown to the gutters and we are starting to lose hope in it altogether.
It is very important to note the antecedents of these voices. The rate and level of unemployment and poverty in Nigeria is well known to everyone. We were told to apply and put in for a nation changing and poverty alleviating scheme that will not only feed us but also develop our nation and we did. Most of us left our peanut paying jobs for this scheme while a large number of us had either been unemployed or underemployed for donkey years after graduating from the university.
Here we are five months after the commencement of what we had thought would put smiles on our faces and take us to the next level, but, instead of taking us out of poverty, the reverse is the case. We took the job so serious, did verification, got posted, went for trainings and lectures and resumed active duty but yet to be paid a dime. A large number of us had borrowed for transportation, feeding and upkeep with the hope that our stipends will be paid soonest, but to our surprise, days started running into months. We do not intend to down tools, but if pushed to the wall as it is the case now, we will not only down tools but also stage a peaceful protest all over the state and plans are in place to coordinate a national protest as we have discovered that this also affects other states of the federation, do not test the resolve of hangry men and women!
Furthermore, it is disheartening to note that in the entire country, more than 30% have not been paid till date, out of more than one hundred and ninety thousand volunteers. Instead of having a sense of belonging and being joyful to serve our fatherland, we have come to realize that we are not catered for. We really had so much hope in this administration and its plans for the teeming youth populace, but this has waned considerably in recent times.
Under these circumstances, we strongly denounce management policy of perpetual silence, ineffectiveness and maladministration, and demand you to:

Start the speedy payment of our pending stipends.
Ensure that all volunteers are hitherto verified on the system as passing physical verification.
Establish an effective and capable NPVN agency to attend to volunteers as we have realize that the National Orientation Agency saddled with this responsibility are not only too feeble to handle it,but are mis- and mal-informed.
Take the plight of volunteers seriously by reacting and attending to us as at when due.
We hope that you will arrange proper measures to solve this matter, and chalk out remedies for volunteers grievances not later than May 15th 2017 as failure to do so will give us no other option than to take to the streets which may paralyse economic activities not only in one state but in the entire country in general. Attached is a signature from thousands of volunteers in states of the country ready and willing to fight for what is theirs. Do not test the resolve of hungry and angry youths. We know and trust that our demands shall be attended to and prompt actions taken in the shortest possible time. Thank you.
