DHL boss, Komolafe is dead
National News Jan 14, 2010 Chairman of the DHL, Otunba Raheem Ade Komolafe, is dead. According to a family source, the man died in a private hospital on Tuesday, after an alleged attack on him and some members of his family by a local government official.

The family of Chief Komolafe is bent on seeking justice through the process of the law. According to Chief Omo Olupe, on Monday the DHL boss was on life support machine, prompting the family to go and report the council official and his father to the Owa Obokun Of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

Another source revealed that the Ijesa sports club of which late Komolafe was the patron will hold a meeting today on the next line of action.

The suspect killer was detained by the police for assaulting the chairman of DHL, Chief Ade Komolafe, on 15 November 2009 at a filling station in Imo area of Ilesa, Osun State.

The council official was said to have driven to the filling station in an unmarked private car, and wanted to jump the queue at the petrol station but was resisted by Chief Komolafe, who had been on the line for quiet sometime.

DHL chair Ade Komolafe is dead

Chairman of global courier firm DHL Otunba Raheem Ade Komolafe is dead.

He died on Tuesday in a London hospital, about two months after he was allegedly assaulted by a local government chief in Osun State. He was 71.

Family sources told The Nation in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, yesterday that Komolafe had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the November 15, last year attack.

"He didn’t survive, it is possible he died from those injuries", a source said.

The family said it would seek legal redress.

A member of the family, Chief Omo Olupe, said the late Komolafe was on life support machine on Monday, prompting the family to report the council chairman and his father to the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

The Ijesa Sports Club is expected to meet today on Chief Komolafe’s death. He was the club’s patron.

Ibukun Fadipe, chairman of Ilesa West Local Government, was detained by the police last November 15 for allegedly assaulting Komolafe at a filling station in Imo, Ilesa, Osun State.

Fadipe, who rode in an unmarked car, was said to have attempted to jump the queue but was stopped by the late Komolafe, who had waited patiently on the line.

Other motorists were said to have joined Komolafe to stop Fadipe, who allegedly did all he could to buy fuel before anyone.

Apparently feeling humiliated, Fadipe left in annoyance to bring his men to unleash terror on Komolafe and others.

The late Komolafe, his wife and mother-inlaw were beaten up. His Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was among the vehicles damaged by the hoodlums. Other motorists suffered the same fate.

Komolafe reported the incident at a police station in Ilesa and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Osogbo. where the council chairman was invited and detained. No charges were brought against him, however.

The late Komolafe died about 15 days after the death of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ilesa, Pa Agboola Obadare, who was also allegedly assaulted. Obadare died of head injury sustained in the attack.

Most Nigerians hate to queue anywhere be it in a banking hall or petrol station. They always want to show they know the "officer in charge". This poor man should have simply ignored that chap and let him be; see now as he has died just like that.

SPOT ON.

In fact even in church people hate protocol. The problem here is that it cuts accross all classes of our society. People simply find it had to exercise any form of self restraint when they feel they can invoke certain powers and enjoy certain privileges at the expense of laid down rules.

I will not be surprised if this is politicised later. Afterall if a man has command of the thugs in Nigeria, he is supposed to be a political heavyweight.
