Faith, the female undergraduate of University of Ilorin who blew the whistle on the randy lecturer who tried to seduce her in his office is now facing victimisation by the authorities of the University and may soon be expelled from the University.
About a year ago, social media was awash with the story of sexual harassment involving one Dr Muhammed Sani Idiagbon who was Acting head of Department of English at the University of Ilorin. In an audio tape that went viral, Dr Idiagbon persistently made immoral advances to Faith, a female student of the department who rejected the advances, while Dr Idiagbon was reported to the university authorities.
When the matter became public, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, promised the Nigerian public that the lecturer would be arraigned before the staff disciplinary committee as stipulated in University Regulations.
However, rather than do this, the University allowed the lecturer to quietly resign and leave the system. The lecturer is said to be an indigene and a relation of the Vice-Chancellor which apparently prompted this “soft landing” approach.
Now a year after the incident, the University authorities have reportedly put machinery in place to victimise Faith .
According to reports at our disposal, the UNILORIN authorities had embarked on a deliberate witch-hunt by writing to the Asa Local Government Area to verify the citizen claim of Faith , which then prompted an unexplained letter by the Local Government to the lady.
It turned out Faith, who lost her biological father as a child 20 years ago, has a foster father by name of Abdulraheem Garuba, a friend to her late father who hails from Budo Agun in Asa local government area of Kwara State.
It also came to light that, prior to the UNILORIN incident, the foster father had always endorsed her official documents and had sworn to affidavits confirming Faith as his foster child. When the local government contacted Abdulraheem, he readily confirmed the relationship with Faith .
However, in an unusual twist, apparently on promptings from the University authorities, the local government has reportedly written to the University to cast doubt on the citizenship status of Faith. According to further reports, some powerful forces in the University are hell bent on removing Faith for daring to blow the whistle on an indigene. The lady herself could however not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, some women organisations and human rights activists are already gearing up for a showdown with the University over the affair, wondering why the University should be interested in singling out the lady for such victimisation for blowing the whistle on a randy male lecturer. The issue may also generate unprecedented legal tussle over the citizen rights of children with deceased fathers and foster parents.

Actions like this would discourage others from coming out of the ShadowsOfTheirCloset in telling us about the sexual harassment they pass thru in the hands of their lecturers ...

This is too bad! ... Am very sure one of her friends hu had been harassed by the same lecturer n kept mute would be pokingHerWithSpoonFeedingTorments that she should have done like her Nd not expose the lecturer!

This system helps no one except those in the system! ...our problem in Nigeria is majorly the RaptUnavailabilityOfInstitutions ...

imagine a lecturer wants to be tried by a disciplinary committee ...a committee filled with one third of lecturers practicing the same offence ...

There should be an independent institution in charge of handling sexual harassment by lecturers who would be void in showing sentiments to any person ....

God bless our NGOs out there ...just imagine Nigeria without NGOs ... we the people would be nothing without them ...they are our heroes!

shut up and stop saying what you don't know.
I'm a fresh graduate from department of physics, university of Ilorin. All of the lecturers in my department are christian and just only one Muslim lecturer.
All through my four years in the school, the departmental President and vice president were always Christians even till now, just because some bigoted christian lecturer won't allow a Muslim to be the department president.
Try and verify things yourself and stop believing in hear say so as not to make a fool of yourself on the internet undecided

This won't quickly reach FP since snake and pre wedding photos are not attached to it. I said it before & will continue to say it, Nairaland is now a Joke!
Back to the topic, our educational system is on the brink of collapsing which is quite a shame cry
Nothing is ever right in this God forsaken country... even with enough evidence!
The media won't take this up, bloggers too won't take it up!!!
We are doomed as a country!
