Billy Graham’s daily devotional

[Thursday May 25, 2017]

Topic: His Indwelling Presence

. . . to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. — Ephesians 3:19

To appreciate art, one must either be born with an artistic sense or develop it by training. Only a relatively few people have an innate sense of color, form, and harmony. To such, a love for art comes naturally. Without an artistic appreciation in one’s soul, visiting an art gallery can be a boring affair. Likewise, to appreciate good music one must have music “in him” or develop it. Without a sense of music appreciation, it is possible to sleep through a symphony concert or a performance of the Metropolitan Opera. So it is with the things of God.

Talk about God can become dreary and lackluster if God isn’t in you. Church can become a drab thing and the Bible an irksome Book if the Holy Spirit does not illuminate your soul with His indwelling presence. The wonderful thing about it all is that God has planned life so that if our hearts are dead to spiritual things, something can be done about it.

Prayer for the day: Lord God Almighty, may I daily reach out to You and be filled with the love of Christ.

Kenneth Copeland’s daily devotional

Topic: Awake to Righteousness

Awake to righteousness, and sin not.... - 1 Corinthians 15:34

When your alarm clock goes off tomorrow morning, don’t just wake up to another day. Do what the Word says to do and “awake to righteousness”! Reawaken yourself to the glorious fact that you’ve been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and given right-standing with Almighty God.

Why? Because tomorrow—and every other day of your life on this earth—Satan is going to try to convince you that you don’t have any right to the things of God. He’s going to try to bring you into bondage again to sin in order to control your life. But he won’t be able to do it if you’ll reawaken yourself every day to who you really are in Jesus.

Here’s a prayerful confession to help that revelation come alive in you:

“Father, I confess anew Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior today. Lord, You are the head of my life. I completely yield myself to You. My will is now Your will. My plans are now Your plans.

“As a new creation in Christ Jesus, I accept the gift of righteousness and all that gift includes: health, prosperity, peace, joy and life abundant. I put aside every weight and the sin that so easily besets me. I now look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith.

“According to Your Word, I can now reign in this life as a king. The power of sin and death in my life has been overcome. No longer am I ruled by the forces of evil but by the God above all gods. I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me.

“I determine today to walk conscious of my right-standing with You, Lord, and with every step to draw closer and closer to You. Thank You for the gift of righteousness. Because of that gift, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

“In Jesus’ Name. Amen!”

Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:9-15

OPEN HEAVEN

Thursday 25, May 2017

[Pastor E. A. Adeboye]

Topic: For The Glory

Memorise: And I, behold, I will harden the heats of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. Exodus 14:17

Read: Exodus 14:15-17

MESSAGE:

Do you know that every time God moves to deliver a helpless and hopeless individual, He gets some form of glory from it? After led the children of Israel out of Egypt and they were on their way towards the Red Sea, the Egyptians, forgetting all that they had suffered on account of the Israelites, resolved to go after them and bring them back. This was a serious problem for the Israelites, who had lived as slaves all their lives and were just experiencing freedom for the very first time. However, God did not leave them alone. Open Heavens Devotional 2017 Thursday 25 May 2017:-For the Glory. In fact, He prepared Moses and Joshua to physically lead them while He provided spiritual direction and protection. On your way to your place of destiny, the Lord will not leave you alone. As He led the Israelites, so will He lead you in Jesus’ Name. Be assured in your heart that God will not allow your present predicament to drown you, because He knows that His intervention will definitely bring glory to His Name.

“And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.” Exodus 14:17

What God’s children were faced with the serious threat of returning to slavery, although they cried to God for help, one major reason why God intervened was because of the glory or honour He was going to get from it. Open Heavens daily devotional 2017. If you are confronted with a situation you can easily come out of, or a situation someone can help you out with, either you or the fellow who helped you might want to take or partake of the glory when the problem is solved. In contrast to this, when you are pushed to a corner, with no specialist, parent, relative, friend or pastor to help, when God intervenes in such situations and the issue is resolved, He alone will take the glory. God does not like to share His glory with anyone or anything (Isaiah 42:cool. Unfortunately, many people who give testimonies still share in or even completely rob God of His glory. The summary of their testimonies is that they prayed so much, fasted so long, gave a lot or were very smart and got their miracle because of this. Such people are glory thieves. There are many people who have done much more than they did and yet their situations have not changed. God can step into your situation because of the glory He will get from it, so never tamper with His glory.

Action Point: Man has a problem and wants a solution. God gives the solution and wants the glory. Never allow anything to tamper with God’s expectation!

Topic: Keep Them

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. John 17:12

We all have a purpose in life, and our purposes are not for ourselves. The things we learn will amount to nothing if they die with us. That’s why it is always emphasized that we die empty and give all we have to those under sphere of influence. That is where true impact lies. To this end, there are certain persons God has placed us in charge of in the kingdom. Persons who look up to us, who we are to influence their lives. The impression we make on these guys are what they’ll likely carry on for the rest of their lives, and it would end up shaping their thoughts, decisions and pattern of living.

Christ called His disciples to be under His tutelage, and at the end His testimony to the Father was that “all that you gave me I have kept.” The gentle churches were under Apostle Paul, that’s why He constantly wrote letters to them, admonishing them always of the doctrine he thought them, and that they follow his examples of faith and right living. So, whatever we do, we have to look out for those under us, and make sure we do not do or say things that will make them stumble (Romans 14:21). So that we will be able to testify that the ones given to us, we kept.

We must not only keep those under us, we must also make leaders out of them, so that they can also lead others. 2 Timothy 2:2 says - “and the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” It is important to teach those under you to also teach others, as they themselves also have people under them they will lead. Christ did this when He sent the twelve and the seventy out to preach the gospel (Matthew 10:5, Luke 10:1 respectively).

Never joke with those under your care, as they’ll be your testimony before the Father.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Father thank You for such great opportunity to care for Your flock. Help me and teach me to care for them according to Your will, and keep them in You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Dunamis’ Daily Devotional By Pastor Paul Enenche

Topic: The Benefits of Training

Scripture: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Thought For The Day: When you are trained, you increase your efficiency in life.

Training, the act of learning a particular skill or type of behaviour in order to enhance one’s worth in life is critical to the fulfilment of destiny. God takes time to train His vessels before He exposes them to fulfil destiny. Jesus trained His disciples for about three years; no wonder they became mighty instruments in the Hand of God.

Now, what are the benefits of training?

1. Increased Efficiency: When you are trained, you increase your efficiency in life. When you sharpen your mentality, you enhance your destiny.

2. Elimination of Stress: When you are trained, you reduce or eliminate stress and struggles in life. Many people who end up on the road pushing wheelbarrows and struggling to survive never had the opportunity of going to school; that is why their lives are characterized with struggles and sweat.

3. Profit and Increase in Life: When you are trained, you will see profit and increase in life. A sharpened mentality increases self-worth.

4. Favour and Opportunities: When you are trained and your mentality is sharpened, you will increase in favour, opportunities and openings in life.

Beloved, ignorance is the greatest enemy of destiny. Mediocrity is the highest sponsor of obscurity. Improve your worth by being trained.

Remember this: When you are trained, you increase your efficiency in life.

Assignment (s):

1. Make up your mind to be trained. Go for further trainings both academically and vocationally.

2. Determine to learn a new thing on a daily basis.

3. Train yourself spiritually above all.

Prayer: Give me the grace, LORD to sharpen my mentality for destiny fulfilment in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Symptoms of a Hard Heart

Mark 8:17, "And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?"

Matthew 16:1-12; Mark 8:11-21

Just a few days before this instance, hardened hearts caused Jesus' disciples to be amazed when they saw Jesus walk on the water to them. Here, Jesus' statements reveal some of the characteristics of someone with a hardened heart.

First, a hard heart keeps us from perceiving spiritual truths. This is why everyone in a church service hears exactly the same message yet, some will receive while others won't. It's not the Word that is the variable, but rather the condition of the hearts. A hard heart stops spiritual perception.

Second, a hardened heart stops us from understanding spiritual truth. When a person doesn't understand God's Word, Satan finds no resistance when he comes to steal it away.

Third, a hard heart keeps us from remembering. This isn't to say that we can't recall facts or scriptures. As related in Mark 8:19-20, the disciples remembered the facts of the two miraculous feedings, but they had forgotten any spiritual lessons they might have learned. Likewise, some people can quote scripture or remember what the sermon was about, but they can't perceive the spiritual life in the message or retain what they did perceive.

A hardned heart blinds us to any spiritual perception and keeps us thinking only in the natural realm. Small faith and a hardened heart are the same. Hebrews 3:12-13 parallels an evil heart of unbelief to a hardened heart. It takes great faith to keep our heart sensitive to God. Seek Him with your whole heart today.

Topic: Navigating Rough Waters

Read: 1 Chronicles 28:9–20

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. 1 Chronicles 28:20

I was enjoying the start of my first whitewater rafting experience—until I heard the roar of the rapids up ahead. My emotions were flooded with feelings of uncertainty, fear, and insecurity at the same time. Riding through the whitewater was a first-rate, white-knuckle experience! And then, suddenly, it was over. The guide in the back of the raft had navigated us through. I was safe—at least until the next set of rapids.

Transitions in our lives can be like whitewater experiences. The inevitable leaps from one season of life to the next—college to career, changing jobs, living with parents to living alone or with a spouse, career to retirement, youth to old age—are all marked by uncertainty and insecurity.

In one of the most significant transitions recorded in Old Testament history, Solomon assumed the throne from his father David. I’m sure he was filled with uncertainty about the future. His father’s advice? “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. . . . For the Lord God, my God, is with you” (1 Chron. 28:20).

We’ll have our fair share of tough transitions in life. But with God in our raft we’re not alone. Keeping our eyes on the One who is navigating the rapids brings joy and security. He’s taken lots of others through before.

God guides us through the rapids of change.

Insight:

King David had desired to build God’s temple (1 Chron. 17:1), but God told him he could not because of the blood he had shed as a warrior (28:3). Instead, the privilege and responsibility for this project would fall upon the shoulders of David’s son Solomon. It is understandable that Solomon would be apprehensive about assuming this role. But his father admonished him to trust in God and do the work. Indeed, God was faithful as Solomon built the temple and took his father’s place as king.

Are you facing a transition? Reflect on God’s faithfulness and ask Him for strength to carry you through.
