Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu has been handed an ultimatum by the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) to get a win in his next game against Benin in the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday or face the sack.

After losing 3-1 to defending champions Egypt in their opening group game on Tuesday in Benguela, the coach has come under tremendous pressure to deliver victory for Nigeria. Complete Sports has said that NFF officials have been debating pushing aside Amodu and handing the team over to assistant coach Daniel Amokachi.

But the federation officials have resolved to give troubled Amodu one last chance to prove his mettle against Benin, failing which he will be asked to hand over the reins of the team to Amokachi.

In reaction, the team's media coordinator Idah Peterside said that Amodu has a secure job as long as he leads the team to the pre-tournament agreement of at least a semi-final finish.

Also calling for support for Amodu is a member of the Presidential Task Force in charge of the Super Eagles, John Fashanu. He says there is still time for the gaffer to make amends.

"It is not enough to crucify Amodu for losing one match in this competition. He needs encouragement to do better in the next matches," Fashanu told The Punch.

Reports say that Amodu has already begun to take out his frustrations on journalists at the team's training headquarters by not granting any interviews after the training session on Thursday.

They should leave the man to finish what he started.
