Many people including a driver and his conductor, narrowly escaped death on Friday when a trailer conveying gravel, crashed on Calabar - Itu Highway, near Itam Market in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m.


The trailer with Lagos commercial number plate; SMK- 852- XL, was driving towards Itam Market, when the driver suddenly lost control, tumbling down and spilling its contents on the road.The driver and his conductor who succeeded in jumping out of the moving vehicle before the crash sustained major injuries.The accident was caused by brake failure.

The trailer blocked the busy expressway resulting in a traffic gridlock that lasted several minutes

Either it is a fake item imported from China. Or a shady mechanic. Or an irresponsible driver who simply hasn't bothered to get it checked out.

And this is how we needlessly joke with human lives in Nigeria. No standards.

i suspect the driver. They should do a blood test. Am sure the guy was under the influence of something and using break failure as an excuse. Because he must have been overspeeding despite carrying load on his truck or how else can one explain the truck falling to the side.
