Open Letter To Ekiti State Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose by tolexy123: 6:49pm On Jun 04, 2017 |
AN OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR PETER AYODELE FAYOSE, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF EKITI SATE 04/06/2017. By Fadare Oluwaseun Emmanuel. Your Excellency, This is the first time I'm compelled by the situation of things in Ekiti for almost three years of your administration to write a letter to you. I should therefore have made this letter a private one, but, I resolved to making it an open letter since you are a lover of publicity sir. Sorry; I didn't salute you as expected, this is particularly so because of my curiosity to go straight to the purpose of this letter. I, however, hope you find time to read through, grant my request and ease Ekiti people of the current hardship. Let me use this medium to applaud your efforts towards repositioning Ekiti economically and socially on the one hand; the road networks as well as the ongoing over-head bridge and the ultra-modern market structures in the state capital are unprecedented and commendable in this regard. On the other hand, I outrightly condemn your inability to drive Ekiti state in the direction of the everyday realities of Agricultural Practices, Entrepreneurship and Technological Advancement thereby expanding the economy of the state and creating jobs for the teeming unemployed sons and daughters of Ekiti. In the same token, I condemn your inability to pay workers in the state sir. If there is anyone who have enjoyed the love of workers in the world, it is you; this is evident in the manner and way Ekiti Workers massively supported you at the wake of the election that brought you to power in 2014. Sir, it is a great disappointment that you have chosen to pay them back in a different coin. May God help you to know this and do the needful. Mr governor, the purpose of this letter is not to evaluate your successes and or failures over the years. In clear and concise terms, your role in the recent Fuel Scarcity in Ekiti State is the reason for this piece. I recall on the 7th of January, 2017, you were spotted quenching an inferno which broke out at Strive Energy Petrol Station, Ijigbo roundabout in Ado Ekiti with buckets of water. An activity which I considered impolitical of you in the name of publicity. Thank God no life was lost and nothing happened to you. Clearly and without doubt, that day marked the genesis of the hardship we are witnessing in the whole of Ekiti as at today. Sir, I have followed events overtime and I must expressly thank you for your strong stand geared towards securing the lives and properties of Ekiti people. The demands of Ekiti state government under your watch is pellucid and simple. Without prejudice to the Premium Motor Spirit dealers in Ekiti, their voice is succinct and their agitations are understandable too. Your excellency, it will amount to an unforgivable offence to assume you are not aware that the only reality in Ekiti state as a result of this rift is hardship, hardship and hardship. Nothing more! Without economizing the truth, sir, it is visible to the deaf and audible to the blind that your firm resolution, or better put, your no-going-back decision on the subject of this letter is yielding no positive result. For instance, on the 25th of May, 2017, I read with utmost shock your threat to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy of any filling station that refuses to commence the sale of PMS in Ekiti. It is also worthy of note that during your last "Gomina Salaye" programme, you incited Ekiti people to take action against the properties of the Petrol Dealers, and in response to your directive, thugs invaded the streets of Ado Ekiti and destroyed properties of petrol marketers. Sir, you will agree with me these tactics only worsened the situation. Petrol dealers didn't only continue their strike, Ekiti people have continued to indulge in illegal and insecured sale of petrol and some few have continued to live at the expense of others through uncontrolled price of petrol across our state. Mr Governor, this rift is no longer about the political undertone, the stubbornness of the petrol marketers, your kick-and-follow approach or the exhibition of force. It is now about the hardship, and discomfort, and suffering of the artisans, civil servants, business owners, children, young and old people of our state overtime. Infact, it is correct and apposite to describe the situation as an artificial war against Ekiti people since we are directly at the receiving end here. Sir, your modus operandi have placed you to be a man on the people's side. It will therefore amount to a negation of this claim to seeing you watch Ekiti people profusely suffer unnecessarily. I hereby put it to you that it is high time you soft pedal and employ diplomacy and dialogue in place of the instrumentality of force, of cohersion and of compulsion. If you can do this, not only that the artificial war would end, peace and tranquillIty will surface and prevail in our land and Ekiti people will appreciate you. Of course, sir, you owe it to yourself, and to us, and to posterity and to Almighty God to do so. And if you are a careful reader, sir, you will notice I'm mentioning "God" the fourth time in this letter. It is simply because I know you believe in His existence. And like He did to King Solomon, may this God help you to think well and do well. Your Excellency, permit me to end this letter with the words of leader Martin Luther King Jr. which goes thus: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that". I hope your mind find expressions to these strong words. Happy Sunday!
