The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Onwukwe, who claims to be a pastor with Apostolic Christian Church Mission, Gowon Estate in Ipaja, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Fola Takumbe, told the court that the accused and Mike Williams, now at large, fraudulently obtained N2.5m from a member of the church, Mr. Samuel Amueze.

He said that the offence was punishable under Sections 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State 2003.

Onwukwe pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.

Magistrate E.O. Ogunkanmi later adjourned the case till February 24 for further hearing
