The Nigeria Ports Authority has expelled 7 of the 14 agencies at the nation’s sea ports, in a bid to start the implementation of the new executive order signed by acting President Yemi Osinbajo, which seeks to enhance the ease of doing business in sectors across the economy.

Managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala-Usman yesterday named the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA); Nigerian Customs Service (NCS); Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Nigeria Police; Department of State Security (DSS); Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Port Health as the approved agencies to operate at the nation’s seaports.

This was even as the MD ordered other agencies not mentioned and approved to operate at the seaports to leave with immediate effect.

The agencies ejected out of the seaports include:”Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON); Port Quarantine Services, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) etc.

Good for them. What they know how to do best is take bribe. Maybe FG should send them packing outta Naija sef because the rates of substandard materials/goods is damn high.

Guy, had it been u have done one or two transactions at our sea ports before, u will just dancing over this news... Yeah you are right, Quarantine services at seaports are norm all over the world, but you should have learn over time that most things/methods that works well in sane countries doesn't work at all or lose its purpose in Naija... Moreover, judging with the airport regulations too, I believe necessary measures will have been put in place to counter the side effect

Let me school you, what we have in the port is the Phytosanitary Department of the Quarantine service.
The only job they do is to ensure that for each packaged shipment of wood, you get a certificate of plant fitness.
For this service, they charge 40k/container.
If you don't have the certificate, they charge you amounts relative to your bargaining power.
Just one piece of wood and you are a victim.

Did you you know that these thieves have the power to block your shipment from leaving the port even after you have paid all dues?
