Better Small But Mighty Than Big For Nothing!!! by Veritasafrique: 11:47am On Jun 10, 2017
In some instances, quantity matters. However, it is not always the case in all circumstances. In the world today we have big countries like China, India, Russia, America, etc. A big country has some advantages over a small country if it is able to harness it endowments well. If it fails to do so, a small country that is more organized becomes better than a big country that is in a mess. For instance, Austria is a very small country of about six million people but it is better than most of the big African countries. For an African to get into Austria, he or she sings Nunc Dimitis – At last all Powerful Master!
Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. Can we compare Nigeria and Austria? If we do it may be to make a fun of ourselves. Nigeria is a big country, once called the Giant of Africa! Nigeria has every opportunity to become a very great and important country. Unfortunately, Nigeria is very far from arriving at this dream. If care is not taken, Nigeria may be called a “Big for Nothing” if not an expert in corruption.

Why is Nigeria an expert in corruption? The answer is very simple. The foundation of this country was laid on corruption. The amalgamation that brought this country into being was a fraud accomplished for the interest of the colonial masters. The independence we claim we have gotten was based on corruption at its highest level. The colonial masters programmed it and executed it and we are on it today. The civil war that came as consequence of the above two factors, was an evidence of things which have fallen apart as the centre could not hold. In view of all these, Nigeria each day seems to become a Big for Nothing. It does not know where it goes. It matures only in corruption. The corruption that is there today is different from that of tomorrow. Each day, corruption in Nigeria becomes complex and the country becomes meaningless.
After more than fifty years of independence, Nigeria cannot boast of anything. We do not have electricity. There are no roads. There is no water. What can this country point out that it has achieved? Yet, Nigeria is blessed with enormous natural and human resources. Singapore got independence from Britain in 1963 and was amalgamated with Malaysia. It was expelled from Malaysia in 1965 and that marked their actual independence. It celebrated fifty years of independence in 2015, and today it is one of the most developed nations.
The only way out is for Nigerians to go back to the drawing board. Only Nigerians can solve this puzzle. It is not a big deal. It is only to sit together and program the way the country will go. It only implies laying the foundation of this country on the five pillars that make a nation. If this is not done, Nigeria will continue to be a Big for Nothing country. In such a situation, it may be better that Nigeria disintegrates and there will emerge Small but Mighty Countries from Nigeria. The earlier the better. Either… or… The decision is for Nigerians to make!!!

Some Nigerians are more interested in how outsiders see them than how they actually are. We'll rather languish in poverty and be called "The Giant of Africa" than to do what it takes to take our people out of poverty even if it means Nigeria seizes to exist. I'm not for or against disintegration. But i'll rather Nigeria remains as one as long as we put in measures to ensure equality and devolution of powers which means that every part of our constituent unit will take charge of whatever resources in their domain. That's the only way forward for a big and diverse country like Nigeria. We can keep deceiving ourselves that the unity of this country is non negotiable while people who have been pushed to the wall keep pushing back.

An overbloated big for nothing country with internal eternal conflicting interests CAN NEVER progress. The contraption call Nigeria should give way for Africans to move forward.
