“Not our voices” they chorused and we totally agree with Amosun and co, we are not debating it. We are not an authority in that field.  What Nigeria is asking as it stands today is that the telecommunication companies unmask the owners of the “voices”.  The Majority of Nigerians are not forensic specialist and they will be confused if they are asked for voice analysis of the calls. But, the telecommunication firms can do this.

Both Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and his Borno counterpart, Kashim Shettima, have disowned an allegedly taped phone conversation circulating in social media, which was being passed around as a conversation between the two governors.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Dayo Adeneye, said the conversation never took place. Hear him,

“The voice in the forgery which they paraded as that of Governor Amosun is not that of His Excellency and a simple search on the internet for any speech by him would convince those who are not familiar with his voice that the producers of the audio recording did a poor and unintelligent imitation”, Adeneye said. We totally agree with him and his principal.

Rising to  his call to duty, Gusau, Governor Shettima’s spokesman, similarly debunked the audio. He said;

“The caller who is being presented as Governor Shettima speaks very fast as against the relatively slower tone of Shettima. The caller’s didn’t have any Kanuri accent whereas Governor Shettima has some Kanuri accent. The caller had at the opening of his 20 minutes conversation with a so called Governor Amosun, first introduced himself as a PDP member whereas Governor Shettima is known to be in the APC. "

We are also in agreement with his "postulations".

I remembered the poem by Wole Soyinka called “The Telephone conversation” a conversation between the would - be tenant and the Landlady. The setting of the poem was in United Kingdom, while the themes can be said to be racism. Today,, the whole nation was dazed when a telephone conversation between two governors (though assumed they were the ones, but not proven ) and the deductions we are to make is that the former was in UK, Nigeria’s colonial master the latter is in Nigeria . Another similarity is tribalism, which is the junior cousin of racism.

Listen to the conversation between (assumed /alleged) Governor Kashim of Borno State and Governor Ibukunle of Ogun State. Though both parties have vehemently denied it. Though it hasn’t been proven that the gentlemen are the owners of the voice. It can be tagged  as “the handiwork of mischief makers “ ,as we say it in Nigeria politics.  We know the drill. Nigerians and global communities are hoping  that the telecommunication firms in Nigeria can be responsive to their civic duties now. We the good people of Nigeria demand that the numbers of the individuals be unmasked.

We are not forensic expert to ascertain if the voices belongs to the gentlemen. But what we are worried about isn’t the telephone conversation, what we are worried about is the way the nation is tilting towards ethnocentrism and hate speech.

The level of hate speech in the conversation is so disturbing that one can’t imagine that the voices are that of men above 40 years. If the so called men , we don’t want to assume that they are the governors because it hasn't been proven that they own the voice . But, what is disturbing is the level of hate and animosity . Nigerians, in their “most happiest people “state is not asking for too much again! What they demand is that the law enforcement agencies and telecommunication firms unmask the owners of the voice. We have all agreed and assumed that the governors are not the “owners” of those angelic voices. The big question is , Who  are the men that own those voices?  It is left for the law enforcers to live up to their names.

The ringtone was the Lord is my Shepard. With this kind of conversation, we can also pray Psalm 23 fully .

The level of hate speech in the conversation is so disturbing that one can’t imagine that the voices are that of men above 40 years. If the so called men , we don’t want to assume that they are the governors because it hasn't been proven that they own the voice . But, what is disturbing is the level of hate and animosity

The voices belong to the aforementioned governors on the tape. The alleged phone conversation between Borno and Ogun States governors is close to authentic.

Close to authentic is still fake sir. Would you accept to be paid in a currency that is close to authentic? Or sent to prison on evidence that is close to authentic?
