Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has beckoned on stakeholders in the nation's justice system to evolve a workable mechanism to address the cankerworm of

corrupt practices that have engulfed law practice in the country.
Prof. Osinbajo was speaking at the Opening ceremony of the Golden Jubilee Conference of the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University auditorium, Awka.
The Conference with the theme " Law, Security and National Development ", had as its participants, Law teachers drawn from all Tertiary Institutions across the country where Law is being taught.
Declaring the conference open, Prof Osinbajo who noted that the nation's judicial system is presently under siege by grand corruption, said the negative implications of the cankerworm in the justice administration system for the war against insecurity in the country have been dire.
He also harped on the need for the redefinition of the context of insecurity in the nation's jurisprudence beyond the physical violence and crimes, to include denial of social justice and other deprivations, corruption among others, adding that only then will the various threats of secession, terrorism, restiveness and excision be addressed, as they all bother on the failure by the State to create an inclusive society.
The Acting President who described law teachers as creators and custodians of the foundational premises of law, said the conference presents the opportunity for them to step back and brainstorm on the teething challenges of the legal profession, in other to comeback with more practicable solutions to them.
Governor Willie Obiano in his goodwill message, noted that Anambra presents an example of a state that has significantly transformed from an address of lawlessness to a postcard of excellence, peace and good governance, observed that the decision to award the hosting rights for the event to Anambra lends credence to the fact.
He urged participants to utilize the event to lend new depths and ideas to the intellect of younger practitioners in the law profession.
The Chairman on the occasion and Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen who was represented by a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Amina Augi emphasized that law plays a vital role in ensuring economic and political stability in any human society, hence the need to intermittently review the efficacy of existing laws and their implementation to evolve more pragmatic ones.
In a keynote address, the Chairman, Society for Analytical Economics, Prof Godwin Owoh advocated the need to connect the law with the concurrent dynamics of growth empirics to be able to sustain the Nigerian economy in a manner that guarantees growth security and development.
The Vice chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Joseph Ahaneku acknowledged that the event is in keeping with the University's function of identifying societal challenges and providing answers to them.
In a welcome address, the President of the Association and Dean, Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Godwin Okeke explained that over the years, the Conference has served as a veritable platform for effective training and development of law teachers in the country.
