Nothing is wrong with a V6 engine... It is true it consumes more fuel than an average V4 but trust me when i say what it lacks in fuel efficiency, it compensates it with Power and torque especially if you travel a lot with your Car.
V6 consumes less fuel when speeding ... I drive a V6 and i love it whenever i travel with my car

Note: Mazda Is generally fuel efficient (my opinion)

Your mechanic has given you a piece of professional advice and you are still asking us.

The only issue v6 has is slightly higher fuel consumption. So if you like the car enough to be unperturbed by more expense on fuel then there's no other problem.

i am asking because i have a friend with a contrary view base on experience. He has used a v6 mazda before says the fuel consumption is normal with every other car he has used which are v4. Thanks for your input and time

V6 means likely
1. Bigger engine size and weight
2. Higher engine oil volume when servicing
3. Greater fuel consumption
4. Higher torque and acceleration (higher chance of collision if driving skill isn't perfect)
5. More engine parts (2 top gaskets, 2 valve cover seals 4 O2 sensors, 2 catalytic converters...)
6. Bigger fuel pump...

The mechanic gave you candid advice.

Y do u think ur frnd is selling it for a corolla if it is such a perfect ride? Well just be ready to spend more on fuel if u eventually buy it

it shld be 2002 cos that's d last model year

the mechanic is dumb

u need a new mecho

the millennia has the 2.5L V6....its only a foolish mecho that will say the engine will consume fuel

I am talking based on fact and usage of a 2000 Mazda 626 ES V6 which is the same engine with the millennia

one thing also stands out from ur post...the fact that u love the ride

why not go for what u love and leave people to their opinion

u won't regret it.....only if u change ur mecho

I will do the 2.5L V6 over all the mumu 2.2,2.4L I4 over and over again

its a no-brainer wink

there's no V6 specialist per se

the additional 2 cylinders doesn't need any additional training to now become a specialist

location?

OP, the thing you're not saying here is that it's really all about the money, you say it's from a friend, meaning it's being given to you for a low price(which is definitely lower than the market price of your preferred Toyota cars), so just look at it this way: you buy cheap and spend a lil more on fuel on the long run and it's still the same in the end.

Save up and buy your Toyota car or you buy this one and fuel it. If you can't afford to fuel a car(be it I4, V6, or V8) then you're not financially buoyant enough to drive a car, trust me, shit happens regularly and you must cough out some cash

Cars are liabilities, if you're not buoyant enough to take on that liability then just leave it, if you like open a million threads to ask for opinion, the day you finally acquire any car(your almighty Toyota included), you'll learn the hard way. If you're worried about a marginal difference in cost of fueling then what happens when on you're on way home and you hit a pothole that damage your shocks, tyres and rim, maybe then you'll park the car

Mazda millenia...that's my car. Serving me all the while just that recently I ran into a few issues that needs to be fixed and I am yet to get good mechanics to do it right.

Great car in all.

OP, you never ready to own a car.
Makes me laugh hard each time I hear people complaining about fuel consumption for v6 engine. Unless, there's a problem with your car, especially if you don't keep to servicing schedules, then you shouldn't have issues with the marginal difference in fuel consumption.

I got the same vibes from so called professional mechs and friends, how I go spend tire on fuel when I wanted to buy a 97 Nissan Maxima, first car I ever drove (I bought the car and got an instructor that taught me driving with it). Two years down the line, looking back I can only thank God that I never let the deal pass me by.

The other day I drove my friend's Big Daddy and I don't know if its just me, but I kinda didnt feel "safe" in the car. Car weight felt so light...like I was trying too hard to race the car.

Bottom line, if everything about the car is ok and you like it. Go for it.

- Buy and use the right lubricants
- Vehicle should be maintained by good technicians and not road side mechanics
- Scan your car if there are any complications, ask questions here if you have doubts.
- Enjoy your car till you're tired of it, sell or dash it out and scratch it off your bucket list.
- When you eventually decide to buy an SUV, it will most likely be a V6 or V8 engine.

In other words, live your life cool

I started with v6 engine, still using v6, and I swear I love the performance.

One thing I know is that after using v6 it will be difficult for you to go back to 4plug.

V6 performance na topnortch.

Oga if you are managing, it is better you go and buy toyota corolla jeje. You are only talking about fuel. They are other unexpected expenses that could pop up at any time. The V6 is stronger but then the wahala can be too much. If you are not going to be travelling with the car often, then you should use a toyota. Toyota cars are about the cheapest to maintain especially if you'll just be driving your car from home to work and back and then within lagos.

Bros, why don't you just explain the "wahala" that comes with a V6 so we can all be aware. Are you speaking from personal experience and if yes, what kinda of car was it? I no understand how the unexpected expenses can pop up any time.

Abeg explain more. Thank you

I don't thing V6 engines are problematic. I have owned 2 cars before and both had I4 engines and currently own a car with a V6 engine.
The two major I4 pros are;
1. Smaller engine volume as such less expense in oil change
2. Slightly lower fuel consumption in city driving

V6, it delivers more power and fuel economy on highway is similar to an I4 depending on your foot on the pedal from my experience.

Also most V6 variant cars have more equipment compared to the base I4 counterpart.

Again, the extra 2 cylinders make the work load on the engine lower in terms of torque or power per cylinder and as such V6 should last longer

Overall engines do not just fail, they are caused by mainly lack of care so whether it is I4 or V6 if you don't care for it, they both can fail catastrophically.

If you check and verify that the engine, transmission and suspensions are okay, then go for it.

Ask for me, a car with V6 engine is the real deal.
