1. You use abusive language
You never think twice before reprimanding your children by using expletives. You feel it is your parental right to correct them with harsh words.
Do you think the harsher the words you utter the more disciplined your children will become?
How wrong can you be?
Your abusive words inflicts great hurt in them.
Words uttered unthinkingly are words of destruction. They have the power to cut throw the tender heart of your children.
Do not think your children will overlook it and forget it.

Abusive words are like sediments. Slowly they are deposited in their memory. As they grow your children deviate from you in resentment and hitherto suppressed anger.

2. You compare your children with others of their age group.
Do you like it when your spouse compares you with others?
You don’t.
You argue and fight with your spouse when he\she compares you in a lesser light with others, don’t you?
It is the same with your children.
They want you to love them for what they are.
When you compare your children in lesser light with others their confidence level is shaken. Your comparison makes them feel they are no good.
Stop comparing your children with others before it leaves a deep scar in their mind.

3. You never spend quality time with them
Are you a social media addict?
Do you spend hours playing video games?
Very wrong on your part.

You are so addicted to the internet\social media\video games that you never spend quality time with your children.
You are also so glued to your smart phone that you are deaf eared to their eager interaction. You never realize that their tender world crashes to pieces when you never pay attention to them.
Your children want you to pay attention to them.
They want you to listen to their innocent talk.
They want them to be your center of attraction.
Is it a very difficult thing to do?
Are internet\social media more important than your children?
Never abuse your children in such a callous way.

4. You are never appreciative
You are ever criticizing.
You make negative comments about the ability of your children.
You are never satisfied by what they achieve – Be it studies\sports or other extra-curricular activities you want better and better performance from them.
Can your child have adult proficiency at a tender age?
They can evolve only gradually.
Do not abuse your children by being unappreciative.
Be an understanding and appreciative parent.

5. You are too strict
When you are too strict your children do not like being with you. Your stern manner makes them unnerved and frightened.
Remember that you should never make your children fear you. Respect out of fear is very short-lived. You lose it as soon as they grow up.
But when you make them your friend they like you. They respect you out of love. Very longstanding and lasting.

Parenting is an art. Practice love and understanding. Never practice abuse and mishandling of the tender emotions of your children.
