Reject Donations Above Members Income, Osinbajo Tells Religious Organisations by kennybabs1980: 6:04am On Jun 19, 2017
The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has asked religious organisations in the country to investigate members earnings and reject any member’s donations that exceeded its monthly income.
Osinbajo argued that religious houses should inculcate in their members honesty and integrity and corroborate efforts of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies, in exposing anyone found spending beyond his means.
He stressed that if religious houses embark on this, looting of public treasury or private organization pulse will reduce because those who engage in misappropriation of public funds does that out of greed, and not for any political objective of keeping a war chest for the future.
Osinbajo, who urged the religious organisation to embark on the check at Father’s Day celebration held at Aso Villa Chapel, Abuja, lamented that many former public office holder that looted Nigeria’s treasury often justify their action on plan to engage in future political activities in the country.
The Acting President said: “Every time that we come to church, we are told about giving. But we need to talk more about honesty. We need to talk far more about honesty. In the same way we talk about giving, we need to talk more about honesty because just like His Eminence said, Nigeria’s great problem is not the absence of prosperity. It is as he so eloquently put it, that we have enough for our needs but we don’t have enough for our greed. The greed of many is what has landed this country where it is today.
“It is the greed of so many; many who have been placed in position of authority. It is their greed that has landed us where we are, where it is difficult to do the sorts of things His Eminence saw in Washington and so many other places. You cannot steal half of the resources of the country and expect to build the sort of things you see in other places.
“And if the church says you are not allowed to steal and we will ostracize you in our midst if you did. If what a man has does not measure up to what he has, if we found that a man has more money than he should have, if a man is earning a salary of a civil servant or a public servant and he has houses everywhere, we have to hold him to account. But he must be held to account in the church.
“He must be told first in the church we will not allow you here. If the church says we will not accept you here or that we will expose you if you are stealing the resources of the country or stealing the resources of a private company or other establishment where you work, then we would not have the type of problem that we have in this country. If only the church does so. Just the church,” he added.
Osinbaho hinted that many arrested for misappropriating public funds often claimed that they steal because they wanted to have an arsenal for future political exploits, saying, It is a lie. It is greed. In any case, even if you want to do that, you have no right to do it.
His message from the pulpit certainly strikes a chord against the backdrop of the avalanche of corruption cases the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has been pursuing since inception of the Government.
Though the campaign had suffered some setbacks lately, with controversial verdicts by the court that tend to let go the accused but the Acting President argued that the religious houses in the country must preach against such act immediately.
Osinbajo, who however spoke on the Father’s Day celebration, stressed that the role of every father should be to build a virile nation that could stand the test of time.
“In other words, the role of the father is supposed to be that of building nations, building generations. And Abraham is the example God set for us; of a man who God wanted to be the exemplar of the type of conduct that God expects of fatherhood; a man who will teach his children and children thereafter the way of righteousness and justice and the way of fear of God.
“Just as Christian fathers today, it is our duty as God spoke concerning Abraham in Genesis 18:19, it is our duty to build up a generation of righteous men and women, a nation of just men and women who fear God and puts God above everything else. And I believe that the Almighty God will help us. I just pray that the Father of fathers, the One who has called us, one who has saved us will bless each and every father here today in the mighty name of Jesus. The Almighty God who is the great Father of all fathers will ensure that we get everything we need to make our families, to make communities truly great and to make our nation great.”

Generally, the concept of religiosity is widely misunderstood by many. As many believe in God but in different concepts.
Christians and Muslims in the early days of their religion never practiced it for gains in business,health.... But a devotion to God because of the evidences of Him they've seen through Jesus and Prophet Muhammad respectively.

Sermons should be based on how to worship, doing good and abstaining from bad deeds but what we have nowadays is sermon on what you need to hear to make you come the next day.

Tho, the person above me tried to site the fault of another religion but generally, all religion has their faults and as a practicer of any of them you must

1. You must stay in your lane believing you are in the right path

2. Defend the religion even when the fact given is not a fact according to the teachings of your religion. (That is why you see traditional religion worshipers wave off the badmouthing we bring on them.

Op. I will like to divert a little to get your attention to some facts you will might not like given your devotion to particular religion. (I'm guilty of this too but....)

We were enslaved by the whites in every aspect of life but yet managed to gain only physical freedom.

Imagine our constitution to be drawn from the original laws of our land; our cultures, customs, religious values.
Imagine Political office holders have to swear by Amadioha, Ogun, Sango e.t.c. or better still imagine a witness in court has to swear by them also, who he want to lie in the process? Do you think the rate of atrocities committed in this country will still be up to what it is? (But they have their faults too just like other religions)

Majority of the people living in many successful countries of the world practice their indigenous religion.
E.g where was Islam originated, how is the country today? How about Christianity and European countries?

China
India
Japan
Korea.....e.t.c

Everyday would you see Muslims disclaiming terrorism.
