@aljharem, Let me define history before you continu in your delusion. History means recorded past. The Benin (Edo) history was recorded in historical documents such as precolonial maps made by european explorers hundreds of years ago. Now please tell me where your "history" was recorded. |

aljharem:Once again which history are you quoting ? How does it even make sense that you would claim that "Itsekiri, awori, ilaje, akoko" are "yoruba" ? For example the land of the Itsikeri doesn't even border the south-west. Historical documents show Lagos as being part of the Benin empire. The only thing all these ethnic groups have in common with the "yoruba" are Benin costums which those calling themselves "yoruba" took from the Benin Empire. Is it time yet for me to point out the fact that Edos have no difficulty understanding "yoruba" dialects, my mother doesn't have any difficulty speaking yoruba and she told me that yoruba is a mild corruption of Edo. 1 Like |

Efewestern:Dude, your lack of historical knowledge is frightening. For your information, before the british ruled over the land space currently referred to as nigeria, there were countires in the stead of nigeria. The status of "migrant" in a state A is to point out that your ancestors were not citizens of A before colonization. You certainly wouldn't expect ijaws living in france to carve out a part of france and claim it is part of "ijaw-land", would you ? The same goes for Edo land and other lands. The ijaw are indigenous to cross river and that is all. Everybody needs to be educated in history, it would avoid all these meaningless fights. |

history2902: Thank God your mother understands Yoruba, so why is she not Yoruba. Is bini not Yoruba ? I also understand Yoruba because of the dialect. Tell your mother to go back to her root, ifa, sango, ogun etc We are Yoruba as far as Yoruba minorities are concern. It is a privilege and an honour to be Yoruba and not any other group. Ask any awori, ilaje etc Itsekires have paid visit to ile ife. How more binis. Tell her to find her root 1 Like |

aljharem:I am starting to doubt your intelligence. Indeed, once again you totally missed the point. My mother and every Edo understand yoruba dialects because yoruba dialects are mere "broken Benin". Our roots are Benin and Delta (which was part of the Benin empire). yoruba whatever, stop trying to rewrite people's history, the Itsekiris and co know they are Edo. Ile ife is not a kingdom it is a priest-dom. The only emperor in the South is Omo n'Oba n'Edo. Now please shove your yoruba propaganda back where it came from. We the Edos, we are not interested. |

Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Nobody: 4:36pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
@aljharem "yoruba" should forever be known as the history-fakers. They just basically decide their "history" according to their mood. The yoruba may be good at faking history, but they will never be able to fake authenticity. This is what authenticity looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDPxi8EPvV0 |

aljharem: You still don't get it do you?, I was pointing out a fact to you that we all migrated to our present day domain, you claimed ijaw migrated to ondo, yes I quite agree with you, itsekiri migrated to Delta, ilaje migrated to ondo. What matters is did they meet any tribe there? and I would also love if you point out the year ijaw migrated to ondo, so we can start from there history2902: Now here we go again, What year did ijaw migrated to ondo and Edo?, so ijaw land in Edo belongs to Your people? funny how we reason at times. This is not a meaningless fight, you are trying to rewrite history that suits you. history2902: You mean itsekiri land don't border Ondo?, to think You still claim you know history still baffles me, you keep rewriting the history of other tribe here which is bad, I hope more itsekiri will see this and make necessary correction. up till date there are still some independent itsekiri communities that claim they migrated from ijebu, most migrated from ilaje they only adopted a BINI prince. 5 Likes |

Efewestern: Tell me what history you are quoting. How is it logical to claim without proof that the King of Itsekiri land (I think that is the Olu of Warri) is Edo, and then to claim that however his people are not ? What history are you quoting ? It seems to me that you guys tried to rewrite the history of the Itsekiri but their King came out to confirm his loyalty to Omo n'Oba Edo and to his ancestors and then you tried to isolate the King from his people. And look once again, the ijaws in Edo Kingdom are migrants !!!! The ijaws living in france can't carve out a part of france and say it is part of ijaw land, why would they now carve a part of Edo Kingdom and call it part of ijawland. You people are crazy. |

@efewestern, do you hear yourself speak ? Do I really need to remind you that Benin (Edo land) was a country with a standing army untill it was defeated by the british ? Given that fact, how logical is it to call parts of Edo state "ijaw land" ? Should the indians living in england now carve out the places in which they live as "indian land" Sincerly, admit it, you are the one who is not making sense. Your people are indigenous to cross river. And they migrated to other kingdoms. You can't rewrite history. You can only rewrite rumours. Benin history is well documented over hundreds of years by european explorers who visited the region. |

Efewestern: Man, take a look at Benin (Edo) history before making stupid threats. The funny thing is that we Edos welcomed you guys as our brothers and even supported GEJ. But ofcourse thieves have no honour, they bite the hands which feed them. Be carefull what you say, don't wake up a sleeping lion. |
Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Efewestern: 5:51pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
history2902: You need to understand the nature of the Ijaw people, we shouldn't support evil just because we are not member of a particular tribe, am not ijaw to start with, all am saying is that Don't deny the fact that we have ijaw communities in Edo and they don't answer to your Oba. Please do a little research before arguing, can you point out the year ijaw migrated to Edo and Ondo? 1 Like |
Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Efewestern: 5:54pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
history2902: The issue here is that we have ijaw enclave in Edo and Ondo state, maybe you are confusing Edo state with Binin kingdom, of course not. ijaw don't have any land in Bini Kingdom, but there are ijaw communities in Edo state. is that too hard to understand? 1 Like |
Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Nobody: 5:58pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
Efewestern: Can you point out the year the indians migrated to england ? No you can't, but it is still a fact that those indians in england are migrants, right ? My argument is very simple. Current Edo state was the heart of a country called Benin Empire/Kingdom whose capital was Benin City. That country was a souvereign country with a standing army, its own flag and so on. Now how is it logical to now claim that parts of the heart of that country are ijaw-land ? The fact that some ijaws are resident in Edo-state doesn't in anyway make parts of Edo state to be ijaw-land. The same way, you have igbo communities in the north, that doesn't make parts of the north to be igbo-land, does it ? It seems you are merely trying to celebrate the lack of manners of some ijaw who reside in Edo state. Disrespecting your host is not a vertue. 1 Like |

Efewestern:I think you really need to get educated. You are confusing "Benin Kingdom" with "Benin City". For your information, Edo state is only a small part of Benin Kingdom. Benin City is the capital of the Benin Kingdom (empire). That is why the Oba of Benin is actually called Omo n'Oba n'Edo. I explained all of this earlier, can you read ? |
Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Efewestern: 6:06pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
history2902: During the creation of Edo state some itsekiris and ijaw communities were carved into Edo state, why some were carve into ondo.. now my issue here is why would you guys say those ijaw communities were migrant? No doubt bini kingdom ruled Lagos, ondo, Delta at some point in time, but those are past glories, it still doesn't mean ijaw don't have indigenous community in those state. I hope you get what am saying? |

Efewestern:First of all I don't know what you refer to as Bini Kingdom. What I know is Benin Kingdom, you guys have to tell me why you keep making this mistake. Also, stop confusing the place where a community resides with sovereignty, those are two different things. Indeed China has no sovereignty over china town in america. There was even a place in the Benin empire which was reserved for portuguese merchants, is that place now part of portugal ? Let me repeat myself: Edo state is a small part of the ancient Benin Empire/Kingdom. |

history2902:What do you mean by... 'yoruba dialects are mere "broken Benin"? In what way? How?? I have lived and worked in both Benin and Lagos for years, o! I can understand quite a bit of both languages, even though I can't speak them. There is no correlation between both. 4 Likes |

laudate: Yoruba is to Edo what Broken-English is to English. A fluent speaker of Edo will have little to no difficulty understanding Yoruba dialects. |
