Whatsapp To Continue Its Support For Android Gingerbread Till 2020 by temitofa(m): 12:20pm On Jun 22, 2017
According to the latest certified statistics, Android phones running on Gingerbread account for just 0.8% of total Android usage. This doesn’t mean that we are talking of hundred, of course we are talking of thousands of smartphones and devices running on this old operating system.

Facebook out of few companies is already thinking of pulling out its support plug for Gingerbread but I don’t know may be they are still thinking about it.

Earlier this week, tellforceblog.com reported that WhatsApp has postponed the discontinuation of its support for devices running on Blackberry OS – including Blackberry 10 smartphones.

WhatsApp released a latest update which automatically killed off its platform support for some great OS users such as iOS 6, Windows Phone 7, and Android versions 2.2 and below. However, the latest update also gives some hard deadlines for other old legacy platforms, after which the Facebook-own messenger will no longer work:
Nokia Symbian S60 after June 30, 2017
BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 after December 31, 2017
Windows Phone 8.0 and older after December 31, 2017
Nokia S40 after December 31, 2018
Android versions 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020

And though the deadlines given to most other platforms appear reasonable, the one for Android 2.3.7 is certainly funny. At least, the fact that WhatsApp enjoys great popularity in developing world where most people are still using older devices was taken into consideration. This simply means, WhatsApp still has customers at hand, irrespective of their level.

So, if you are still using a Gingerbread device till 2020, it simply means, you are a bit stubborn.
