I've been trying to confirm online the year of the car with this Vin Vf38BNFYE80830374.

I saw somewhere online that the 8th digit from the back is the year, it says 8 meaning it's 2008.

I want to buy the car and the dealer seems unsure.
How else can I confirm please?

It's a 2.0 engine dou.

Looks like 2008. Though looks awkward for a 2008 model car, i mean which manufacturer still use this kind of doors on 2008 car?

Re: What Year Is This Peugeot 406 by Nobody: 7:41pm On Jun 28, 2017
Thank you so much. This has been helpful. It means its actually 2008.
God bless you!

The design, architecture and everything about that car is dated for a 2008 ride

Peugeot 504 was a 1968 design but the sale and production continued up till early 2000 & beyond in some countries, for more than 2 decades, even though he was succeeded by other models during the sales.

Peugeot 406 was a 1995 design, but sale & production continued beyond a decade, even when he was replaced with another model. And do so was Peugeot 205.

What determines how long a car design stays in production is the appreciation, love and demand for the design from people or particular set of people with certain interests or wants.

Just because internet provides free information doesn't make all the information on internet accurate, fact, correct or truth that will serve you.

I don't necessarily need to see a Peugeot VIN to know the production year. I can easily tell by mere looking at the Lion.

First, your VIN appears incorrect. Check & confirm the first 6 digit on that VIN.

Secondary, the engine bay indicates the lion is RHD converted to LHD (UK used). Peugeot 406 production stopped in 2004 in Europe and UK is in Europe.

Thirdly, no Peugeot 406 beyond 2001 European production had XU I could see in that engine bay.

That 406 was likely produced in 1999 or early 2000, at most 2001.

Check the VIN you posted with exact VIN engraved on the Lion and do yourself a favour, "Don't believe everything you see or read online".

Irrespective of the demand or sale, It's meant to be discontinued for a better successor, the successor might share the same chassis and something related to the 406 but with better styling and updated interiors.
That's not an excuse o my oga.
Even the Accord and Camry with better sales far higher than the 406 , Gets new design and update .
Tho the successor might share the same motor with the old , but will have a different styling and functions with updated transmission and better Mpg

Peugeot 504 continued selling alongside with Peugeot 505 in Nigeria, when the 505 was introduced in Nigeria market. The sale of the 504 continued even when 505 production stopped in Nigeria.

Business decisions are made around profits. When a particular model continued to bring more profits, you don't cut off that profit unless you are running a charitable organisation.

It's called demand and supply. The demand for the 504 was so high even after introducing the successor, 505, that they made business decision to continue the production and sales = profits. Car models are discontinued or replaced completely, mostly because of drop in sales or demand.

The sale of the newer model, 505, didn't stopped those that preferred the older 504 design to still ask or demand for it, which didnt affect the sales of 505, considering how massively 505 sold in Nigeria as well. The least Peugeot could do was to facelift the 504, but the design remained the same, 1968 design.

This is trash. Its not good enough an excusable offence. It rather shows the ineptitudeness, waywardness, backwardness and laziness of peugeots research, design and engineering team.

It's 2000 production. Immediately I read your opening post, I knew the VIN was incorrect and knew the 6th digit was the incorrect digit on that VIN and I knew the correct digit/alphabet (which is "L" instead of "N" ) and I knew it was 1.8 liter engine, not 2.0 you claimed. But I wanted you to find out yourself by pointing to you a path and allowed you to choose to follow it or not. As always, words don't teach. Only life experience does.

I disagree with you.
The VIN indicate wrong because alphabets recently has been replace with numbers and so, the digit were you have "E" is replaced with "7".
Also,406 production continued till 2008 at the Egyptian plant (factory).
They had options of three engines in the bay, eg. XU, EW, etc.
