It cant work..and would NEVER work...most stolen phones are sold by the street urchins by the road side..do u expect someone with no shop in computer village to comply? Knowing fully well the phone is stolen...even the workload of registering every single gadget to a database is killing...KOLEWERK!

Then why don't we just modify this so that it would work. Instead of restricting the website to computer village traders, why don't they make it accessible to everyone such that when you buy a new phone (from anywhere now) you can register the basic details together with ur name. In the event that ur phone is stolen, any potential buyer (be it in computer village or anywhere) can easily confirm the ownership by just checking on the site.

I don't see much risk in this beyond what we are already exposed to in truecaller.

In collaboration with a software company, the Computer and Allied Product Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN), a trade association of Ikeja Computer Village market traders, has developed a web portal which enables the tracking of stolen phones.

All traders are expected to register every buyer who purchases any item from them (especially mobile phones) on the web portal.

Mr. Adeniyi Ojikutu, the CAPDAN President, said:
“In the event that a mobile phone was stolen and returned to the market for sale, the trader could quickly log on to the portal to verify if the phone was stolen. If verified that it was a stolen phone, the trader would quickly alert the real owner and the police would be invited for necessary prosecution."

Hopely govt. Would make an effort to help this gold initiative.

Why some of Nigerian brothers think that we Nigerians can't bring positive change to the world? I do hope by 2030 Nigeria would become among the first class state in d world.

why. Do we like jokes like this,

you expect the trader to comply, when a fone was sold to him/her in a very cheap price,

lets say a fone that cost 75k, was stolen and taken to CV to be sold, and the seller wanted to sell it for 30k, the buyer having verify that it was a stolen fone, will likely threaten the seller, and buy the gone for a outrageous price of 15-20k,

chaiii those pipo are not serious at alll

I don't get it, why are people so negative in this country?

This is s good development, let's embrace it. At least for s start, over time there will be improved versions of the technology. It could be from the same company or another company.

Remember : Rome was not built in a day.

kudos to the Company

Why wont they make the website robust?? Everybody once you buy a new phone, create an account on the website, register the phone's IMEI with your details.. if you got a new phone, log on with your email and password register another phone.. !! Not just for sellers.. If anybody tries register a previously registered IMEI, it wont allow it. They can even make money from individuals for registration fee say #500... and explore new ideas
