love him or hate him, soludo's place in the annals of Nigerian history has been assured. he initiated and implemented a banking consolidation exercise that raised the minimum capital base of Nigerian banks from N2 billion to N25 billion; a feat many thought impossible. he reduced the number of banks frm 98 to 24. he graduated with a first class honours degree in economics in 1984, a masters in 1987 and a PHD in 1989 frm university of nigeria nsukka winning prizes for best student at all three levels. Anambarians what else do you need?

And he also wine and dine with the people he suppossed to be regulating, coshing up with them that between IBRU and AKINGBOLA, they have 'amassed' $12Billion dollars in wealth whilst their income is less than $10million for all those periods.

Even now Soludo himself is propably a billionaire in naira terms. He did very well on Consolidation but other than that he is a complete failure in regulation.

other than the fact that he is not a professional politician, he knows how to dine with the devil including a party named PDP.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 8:32pm On Jan 28, 2010
yes pdp is a dirty party quite alright but soludo's integrity is at stake. he can be different frm the rest despite the party he is in.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 8:41pm On Jan 28, 2010
@vigasimple, soludo is the man Anambra needs. he is the best candidate.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by chosen6(f): 8:50pm On Jan 28, 2010
^^^And his banking consolidation brought our economy to where we are 2day. He allowed the rot in the banking sector cos he choosed to turn blind eyes to the uneventful looting of the banks by their CEOs.

I heard immediately he collected his share of their loot, he become blind, thus couldnt see the looting while it lasted.

I cant forget Soludo telling nigerians that our economy will not be affected by the economic meltdown when he was still the CBN gov. All na lie

Biased Opinion!
Re: The Truth About Soludo by sd6: 8:58pm On Jan 28, 2010
Jaybee help me ask this guy oo. Which point are u making? Sometimes, i cant fathom why people are nt calculative. Is he the only scholar with such erudition? Why cant u distinguish education from politics? Considering the volatility and complexity of anambra politics, would u opt for an educated political novice where there are dogged politicians like ngige and obi who have battled relentlessly with these nefarious godfathers. The most pressing need in anambra is to get rid of the deep-rooted godfatherism and not that of economics. U seem to forget that the tenets and antecedents of pdp godfatherism could render the best crop of seasoned professionals handicap and unproductive leaving them as pathetic stooges. Maybe u could borrow a leaf from the once eulogized akunyili dora.

Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 9:05pm On Jan 28, 2010
@sd-6 for ur information, godfatherism is a thing of the past presently in Anambra state. chris uba is so frustrated that he opted in backing up uche ekwunife but hes so wrong cus ANAMBRA IS SO STRONG FOR A WOMAN TO RULE
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Mekusxyz: 9:09pm On Jan 28, 2010
Clemiss,

Fasola ia seemingly decent man but comes from a party of crooks having the likes of Atiku and Tinubu. Likewise Soludo. It is your ability to make a difference despite your party that matters. So leave PDP out of Soludo matter. Thanks

If godfatherism is a thing of the past, could u please explain why there was no primaries in pdp when it was evident that there were other contestants in the party? Why did his selection lack unanimity? Is chris uba the only godfather in anambra? U really think he has lost his influence? I think u started this thread to engender a personality cult on soludo and with the responses u've gotten, u have a misguided philosophy.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 9:55pm On Jan 28, 2010
PDP was in choas and that was why primaries wasn't held so the leaders and chieftains of the party decided to select soludo. is that a crime? he was the preffered candidate.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Nobody: 11:00pm On Jan 28, 2010
@poster. It's quite unfortunate that u cannot even differentiate between a leadership role & an academic one. If u have a PHD in Rocket Science but lack character, integrity, sound vision & don't have a passion for serving others then u are not qualified to be a leader. Over and over again Soludo has proven to be a failure in this regard hence not fit to lead. You do not need an advanced degree to know that the much advertised yet shadily implemented banking consolidation turned out to be a mere economics thesis with no resultant positive impact in d lives of d populace but became an avenue for fueling the greedy & self-centred enrichment of some banklords& Soludo associates whose evil schemes are still being uncovered up till now

This guy is making genuine efforts to campaign, leading in most opinnion polls around the state. He has also won more endorsements from all kinds of groups more than any other political candidate. He has the support of both PRINCE and PAUPER.
He has the support of most of the Academia, from the Professors to the students enrolling for the first time in school, his supporters cut accross all.
From the business man waiting for his next container at the seaport to the woman selling pure water, people have identified with his message.

But somehow some come to nairaland to tell us that the only way Soludo wins this election is by rigging!!!!! Is'nt this kind of mindset prejudiced and as such undemocratic?
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Nobody: 12:41am On Jan 29, 2010
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) International on Sunday made public the result of an opinion poll it conducted on the Anambra State governorship election that is due to be held next week Saturday with Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) coming tops. Thirty per cent of potential voters in the state said they would vote for Soludo on the day of the election.

Following Soludo is incumbent Governor Peter Obi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who got 22 percent nod, while Dr. Chris Ngige of Action Congress (AC), Hon. Uche Ekwunife of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and Dr. Andy Uba of the Labour Party (LP) got 18, 10, 10 and 7 percent respectively.

Before the NTA poll result, a United Kingdom (UK) based publishing company, Holler Africa, had conducted a similar exercise on the coming election with Prof. Soludo leading the others with 38 per cent. He was followed then by Dr. Chris Ngige who got 21 percent while Governor Peter Obi got 19 percent. Dr. Andy Uba, Uche Ekwunife, Nicholas Ukachukwu and Okey Nwosu respectively got 9, 6, 4 and two per cent.

While the NTA applied the Short Message System (SMS) in conducting its own poll, Holler Africa which partnered Dozie Anambra Professionals used a combination of Telephone and Direct Interview approach involving 9, 000 potential voters drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state with residents selected from Awka the state capital, Nnewi, Aguata, Onitsha, Ogbaru, Ihiala and Anambra East.

While the results of these polls can be said to be quite encouraging especially to the PDP as a party, the Soludo Campaign Group and the candidate and his running mate, Senator Emma Anosike themselves, what is on ground in Anambra State speaks far louder.

One would be modest to say that Soludo and his Solution slogan has become an anthem of sort in the mouth of most people you come across in the state, especially in the rural areas; and this can be attributed to a combination of factors that include his towering personality stemming from a brilliant academic and most outstanding performance in public service.

After consulting for 18 international organisations including the World Bank, the erudite and highly cerebral economist joined Nigerian Government as the de- facto Minister of National Planning while serving also as the Chief Economic Adviser to the President.

Soludo later moved to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2005 where he carried out a revolution in the name of consolidation and recapitalisation which saw 89 distressed and failing banks form mergers and take- over that folded them into 25 vibrant financial institutions with 15 of them being among the top 1000 banks in the world. Each of two Nigerian banks today is bigger than the 89 pre- consolidation banks put together; and for this and other head- turning records of achievements in the banking and other sectors of the economy, the Financial Times of London in 2006 voted Soludo as the Best CBN Governor in the world.

Apart from outstanding academic and service records, Soludo’s running mate, Senator Emma Anosike is another strong factor pushing the PDP ticket to an imminent victory. A seasoned and grassroots politician, Senator Anosike who hails from Umuleri in Anambra East has deployed his experience and native intelligence into the field, meandering through the shallows into the interior villages to fraternise again with old loyalists and convert new admirers.

There is also the PDP itself, a political conglomerate that is head and shoulders far taller than a combination of other political parties. In Anambra, PDP is like a colossus and you can easily see its towering umbrella in every nook and cranny of the state. By estimation, over 80 percent of political infrastructure in Anambra State belongs to the PDP and even which makes it a waterloo to its rivals.

For those who have been nursing grievances against the PDP for the ugly roles it played in the past against the people and the state, Soludo has been telling them that he is contesting the governorship election under the umbrella of a new PDP. He is telling them that those who perpetrated those anti- social vices in the past have been leaving the party because its new image and posture cannot accommodate their caprices.

Of far reaching significance also is the recent decision of the PDP to de-register its former members who, because they failed to clinch the party’s governorship ticket are now contesting the election under rival political parties. Before the national leadership of the PDP took that decisive stand, there were rumours that Abuja was not totally behind Soludo. Some PDP members were therefore working for the decampes believing that they would be allowed to move back to the party after the election.

Today, however, most of those PDP members are back to their first love, with the knowledge that the entire national body of the party is committed to delivering Soludo and Anosike on February 6 and ensuring that those who failed to return and work for Soludo’s victory at the polls are out of the party for good.

Then the biggest ones: The Soludo Solution brand which aims at Building the Promised Land- The African Dubai Taiwan message. No time in the history of Nigeria has any politician dreamed so big.

According to the PDP candidate who with his campaign team have visited all the 177 communities and 323 wards in the last two months, his administration would begin the construction of a new Anambra that would be like a combination of Dubai and Taiwan (ADT).
Soludo believes that the high level crime rate in the state has created a push factor that drives people away, including investors. To reverse the trend into a pull deal, his government would apply conventional and unconventional means to ensure security of lives and property of the people. To discourage youths from crime and put a stop to kidnapping, and robbery his administration hopes to create hundreds of thousand jobs for the people through the setting up of an industrial village that would shelter about 3000 small and medium enterprises leading to the provision of 300, 000 to 500, 0000 jobs.

To be functional and productive, Soludo said that the industrial village would initially be powered by super generators pending the completion of Anambra Independent Power Plant that his government would build. He plans to take advantage of the large expanse of land in Omambara and some other parts of the state to build a new city that would be planned like Abuja and other cities of the world with adequate social infrastructure to make living meaningful.

Again, Soludo plans to clean up major markets in Onitsha, Okpoko, Ogbaru, Nnewi, Obosi and others and introduce micro- finance schemes to encourage entrepreneurship and empower traders and market women through soft loans and grants in addition to making Information and Communication Technology acquisition accessible to the people as well as make education both qualitative and affordable.
For rural communities, the PDP candidate has promised to empower them to take their destinies into their own hands by the creation of a fourth tier of government made up of leaders of Town Unions who would statutorily be entitled to a certain percent of funds accruing to Local Government Councils to enable each community attend to its peculiar need at all times so that the state government would have time to concentrate on the big idea.

“I can see a new Anambra with an amazing future. I can see prosperity. I can see hope. I see a new Anambra with an international airport, I can see Anambra international airline taking our people to the rest of the world and bringing the world to Anambra.

“I can see a new Anambra with a seaport at Onitsha. I can see the new city, a new Awka capital city, a new Nnewi, the emerging Japan of Africa I can see a new Ekwulobia. But these things can be done only by a governor under the PDP because if you are not in the PDP as a governor, when you get to Abuja, you will be looking for someone to connect you with those that matters. As a PDP governor, I will work into the palour and get what belongs to Anambra, come back with it and together we will build the Anambra of our dream,” Soludo has been saying and you bet, the people do believe him.

Dozen candidates to step down for Soludo

About a dozen candidates are scheduled to step down for the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 6, 2010, election in Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
The candidates and their numerous supporters as well as top officials of the their parties will formally announce their embrace of Prof. Soludo on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Holy Trinity Field in Onitsha at a rally to mark the PDP’s electioneering campaign for the governorship election.

Already the candidate of the National Social Democratic Party, Chief Victor Anigbata, has declared support for Soludo “for his profound vision of turning Anambra State into Africa ’s Dubai-Taiwan (ADT)”.
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President David Mark, House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole, former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, and PDP National Chairman Vincent Ogbulafor are among top party chieftains attending the rally, with the PDP National Vice Chairman (Southeast), Chief Olisa Metuh, as the chief host.

“All these heavyweights are coming despite Prof. Soludo’s comfortable lead in all the polls conducted so far”, said Prof. Osita Ogbu, chairman of the PDP caretaker committee in the state, “because it is our tradition to demonstrate maximum support to all our candidates in major elections and because the party wants a landslide victory in Anambra State.”

Prof. Ogbu, who succeeded Soludo as the Chief Economic Adviser to the President in 2004, explained that the PDP considers “Anambra very strategic because it is the home state of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who led Nigeria to independence in 1960, and it has lost a lot of goodies by being in opposition since the last four years.

“Besides, Anambra may well be regarded as the home of the PDP because Dr Ekwueme was the chairman of G-34 which gave birth to our party, and became the first chairman of the PDP steering committee, and later the first chairman of the Board of Trustees.”

Ijele-ndi-igbo,

U are free to prove me wrong if i am wrong. Didnt all the looting take place under his supervision?

I dont hate him. He is the person that hates Anambra. What investment has he in the state, he claims to love some much?

A man who entered the gov'ship race out of anger doesnot deserve to govern my state at all.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by chidichris(m): 11:51am On Jan 29, 2010
soludo is out to serve the purpose of those who want anambra by all means.
soludo was involved in many dirty deals under obasanjo and i can tell u, he is being forced to take this role as they see him as their way to take over the state.
if it is abt intergrity, i am well convienced that soludo lost all that the day he declared for pdp.
can any well thinking nigeria tell us what we have so far gained from the 11 yrs of pdp.
as usual, he has won because the results are already with iwu but the issue will be the reaction of anambra ppl to his winning.
ngige won under pdp - rigging
andy uba won under pdp - rigging
soludo already won under pdp - rigging
what differs in these 3 gentlemen are the reactions of the ppl of anambra state so we are waiting to see that.
by the way, who is expecting a credible election from prof iwu?
when pdp and iwu are online, as long as obsanjo is the leader of the party with 100s of billions of naire at their disposals, what is the hope of the anambra people.
can a normal anambra man promise of making out dubai and taiwan out of the state within 1 hour into the govt house.
soludo is such a useless idiot that he allowed himself to be used by those criminals.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Nobody: 12:01pm On Jan 29, 2010
On the 6th of February 2006, Anambrians will go out on their numbers to choose who will be their governor. Only two candidates stands that tall in the whole crowd. They are Peter Obi and Chris Ngige.

My pain is that the people will once more be denied their God given right of choosing their governor. The internal colonial masters will impose "Soludo", the annointed son of the PDP: The party that would rather see Ananbra burn than see it shine. The PDP oonly brought us the "greek gift" known as Soludo in order to "capture" the state once more.

Let Soludo be the "best" or whatever, we prefer Obi or Ngige.

I hope that there will be a rerun and I hope that OBI and NGIGE camps can come together when the chips are down, so that the PDP does not take us several years backward again.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 1:16pm On Jan 29, 2010
peter obi is a performing governor quite alright, pls let us not aggrievate issues by mentioning Ngige here. HE IS THE INTRODUCER OF KIDNAPPING as being the first sitting governor abducted in office. A medical doctor controled like a slave by chris uba. Yes he tarred some roads and settled unpaid salaries, he is unfit to rule Anambra.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 1:19pm On Jan 29, 2010
soludo has won most public polls. truly he is the people's choice. ANAMBRA'S CHOICE.

Ijele-igbo:

@metal-gong, isn't peter selfish enough? he has ruled and his time is due. let him give way so another can rule. why is it that money and power never satisfies?
hahahahahaaha . . . .This my brother must be a funny dude
If you want to know the reason why Peter Obi is contesting for a second term, then you should discern the reason why Soludo is contesting for Anambra guber after he had spent five years as the CBN boss.
Anyway, Soludo is not a bad candidate, but he joined the fray at the wrong time. He should have waited for Peter Obi to complete his 8 years;afterall, Obi has performed better than any governor Anambra state has had.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by Ijeleigbo(m): 7:34pm On Jan 29, 2010
@metal-gong, soludo's integrity is at stake. i bet ya soludo will perform more than peter if he successfully becomes governor. Peter made a big mistake. Look at GOVERNMENT HOUSE AT AWKA, it looks like sahara desert. look at AWKA, THE CAPITAL OF ANAMBRA. its a ghost town, the roads are in bad shape. infrastructural underdevelopment and poverty written everywhere. make my guyman go rest chop him money make another person enter.
Re: The Truth About Soludo by ayo84(m): 7:43pm On Jan 29, 2010
The truth about soludo is that he is shady,he became the pdp candidate in a very shady manner, and worse is that he is PDP, the most corrupt political entity in africa.
