many people fail to see the link between their eating habits and their health. They may regard enjoying good health as a matter of chance of which they have no control. This fatal view can hold one back from improving his/her health. Irrespective of whether you are rich or poor, there are some steps you can take to improve your health and that of your family. This will increase the quality of your life, reduce suffering, time lost to illness and less money spent on medical bills.

concentrate on eating fresh food rather than modern processed food. The former helped our forefathers to be healthy and to live long. Commercially repackaged foood and fast food from chain restaurants usually contain hogh levels of sugar, salt and fat which can cause heart disease, stroke, cancer and other serious diseases.

The WHO reports that there are a lot of obese people in some parts of Africa due to overeating. Some people eat anything they come across, hence ignoring their weight. Obese people are at a risk of some health problems like diabetes.

The next question on your mind should be, what does a balance diet contain? A balanced food favours a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains over meat and starchy food. Though once in a while, you can substitute fish for meat. Reduce refined foods such as pasta, white bread and white rice which have been stripped of much of their nutritional value.

Adults and children need to drink plenty of water and other unsweetened liquid every day. It is favourable during a hot weather, when doing heavy physical work and exercise. Such liquids aid digestion, cleanse your body of poison, make for healthy skin and promote weight loss. Avoid drinking excessive amount of alcohol and too many sweetened drinks. One soft drink a day can add 7 kilograms to your weight in a year.
