Good Morning ! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Spokesperson of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Ango Abdullahi, has said his decision to support the Arewa Youths on the quit notice issued to Igbos resident in the North was borne out of perceived insincerity of Igbo leaders on the unity of Nigeria. He made the position known in Zaria on Tuesday when members of Oil and Solid Mineral Producing Communities Landlord Association of Nigeria (OMPALAN) visited him.

2. Report says about 18 houses have been destroyed in a renewed crisis between Umuleri and Aguleri communities in Anambra State. The President General of Umuleri community, Chief Pius Okonkwo, made this known in a press conference on Tuesday in Awka, Anambra State. He called on the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who hails from Aguleri to intervene to save the two communities from the crisis.

3. The body of the late former Nigerian Permanent Representative to United Nation, UN, Alhaji Maitama Sule was Tuesday laid to rest in Kano. The body arrived the 403 Flying Training School air field belonging to the Nigerian Air Force in Kano, Tuesday evening.

4. The Kogi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tuesday, filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, praying it to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from activating process for the recall of Senator Dino Melaye.
Other plaintiffs joined in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/601/2017, are Alhaji ‎Haddy Ametuo, Hon. Shaibu Osune, S.T Adejo, Comrade Yahaya Ade Ismail, Chief Gbenga Ashagun, Ahovi S. Ibrahim, Ghali ND Usman, Isa Abubakar, I. Molemodile, Abubakr M. Adamu and Daniel Sekpe.

5. A Federal High Court sitting In Abuja has discharged and acquitted immediate past Senate leader, Senator Ali Ndume of all charges of terrorism brought against him. This follows his arraignment by the Federal Government in 2011 and his re-arraignment in 2013 on a four-count charge of alleged sponsorship of the Boko Haram sect.

6. There was an attempt on the floor of the Senate, on Tuesday, to declare Senate President, Bukola Saraki the Acting President following Osinbano’s absence. This followed a point of order raised by Senator Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central) who cited relevant sections of the Nigerian constitution, that if the President is not around, the Vice President should act, and if the Vice President is not around, the Senate President, who is the number 3 citizen should become acting President. Saraki, however, ruled him out of order and put an end to the debate.

7. There was tension around Oke-baale area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Tuesday, as the corpse of a 400 level student of Osun State University, Oluwafemi Soonibare, was discovered beside an Islamic cleric’s house. Soonibare, a 400-level student of Microbiology in the school was declared missing on June 26, 2017 after his sudden disappearance from his residence. A protest immediately greeted the discovery and the Alfa’s house was destroyed.

8. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that only a legitimate court order can stop the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye. Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said this on Tuesday while speaking to newsmen in Abuja.

9. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday arraigned an Assistant Director with the National Examination Council, Muhammadu Umar, before Justice M. T. Salihu of the Federal High Court, Maiduguri, on three counts of fraud to the tune of N4m. Umar was accused of collecting NECO Senior School Certificate Examination registration fees of students in a school and converting same to personal fund.

10. Several Nigerian herbalists under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) have offered to treat President Muhammadu Buhari of any ailment he may be suffering from. The group’s patron, Adesunmiboye Fawawo, made this disclosure in Osogbo during a chat with the media on Tuesday. According to him, many Nigerians died cheaply because the practice of medicinal and therapeutic use of plants was being ignored.
