I have had one for about 8 months. I have no real complaints but I can't help but wonder if it can really handle the 60A it's supposed to be able to handle. It's cheap and serves my purpose.

Please how does the victron clone fanpusun mppt charge controller with a VOC of 100V react to a PV input voltage in excess of 100V (say 105V).

Will I see white smoke or will the CC just stop charging the battery.

I am tempted to rearrange my array of 6 X 270W Yingli panels with a measured VOC per panel of 34V from 2s3p (VOC = 68V) to 3s2p (VOC = 102).

It's a pretty good and durable MPPT CC. I have sold almost 6 units of the 60A capacity within and outside Nairaland, and I am yet to receive to a complaint. I also got a new one too, but yet to be installed. Let me know if you would like to purchase it. Selling it for 50,000 firm

Well, I make it a tradition not to max out the stated capacity of these solar products when I use 'em, either premium or not.

So all my 60A POWMR has peaked at 50 amps at most. When I need more power, I simply get extra. So I have two each per set up.

My reason for wanting to do 3s2p is to reduce the current. One of the MC4 branch connectors to connect the 3p got damaged and the damage seems as a result of overcurrent. I am afraid it will happen again.

Use higher grade MC4 connectors or roll your own branched connector to a suitable spec to avoid burning/melting cables and contacts.

When I look at the cable gauges on the main trunks and terminations of those generic Y branch MC4s I am usually not satisfied that they can conduct the rated current long term. I think most MC4s are rated for passing 30A at most.

I create my own Y branches with 16mm sq main trunk cable (going to the CC) and 6mm branch wires (going to the panels) fixed to MC4 at one end - 16mm sq and 6mm sq cables come together via a crimped butt connector/ferrule.

You can possibly do 3 panels in series but drop your cable gauge to 4mm sq or increase the length of the 6mm sq run so that there are a few volts of losses at the CC end of the cable. A good knowledge of the science of energy transmission (voltage drop over a known distance and given cable gauge) or use of suitable online charts will help you here - also real field conditions vs STC for panel rating are your friend.

Please note I am not advocating that you play close to the VoC limit of your CC - I am simply pointing out what is possible given the available tools and knowledge

You need to consider that any voltage drop is indeed real useable energy being lost in transmission.

Check you manual for Continuous power rating..
Most are usually 1000w Peak and 500w continuous.

He was trying to say that d 1000w is the maximum, usable only for just few mins.

500w load can be run continually for as long as your battery can carry you.

That is, never run ur inverter too close to its capacity e.g a 1000w is safely run at 500w etc
