Second option would give longer hours but except you introduce additional charging unit, I doubt your inverter can sufficiently charge it, which means earlier death for your batteries. So, first option is safer.

I have two 150 watts solar panels and about to add another two. The two batteries usually get sufficient charge on most days from PHCN. My problem is I want to change the batteries now and was considering 6V batteries. Was told 2x6V 210AH will still give me what 2x12V 210AH will in a 12V system.

Not sure of trusted brand but can recommend US brand like Simphily
Ahyjo:

Hello. Greetings. Please can you suggest a trusted brand of LiPo4 battery? Thank you.

Nope! 2x6V 210AH is half of 2x12v 210AH. Don't believe anyone who tells you they are the same. He is either a conman or doesn't know what he is doing.

But it should also have programmable re-connect voltage. I will prefer to have a reconnect voltage a few significant values above the low voltage disconnect point.

D'you mind sharing the link on AliExpress?

Good job.

2 x 6V - 210AH gives 12V 210AH... 2520W
2 x 12V - 210AH gives 12V 420AH... 5040W.

Non expert suggestion.... Use lab rat PSW inverter, fangpusun mppt cc, Integrate phcn if possible, use slightly oversized pv array.

Wait for the Harmattan to come. cheesy

grin PHCN ke?! Is that a new solar accessory equipment? grin
Baba, I don jettison those useless guys now no be 36 months, for my crib of course. So I don't even think I will wanna give 'em consideration for a small office business power supply.

I know I will have to oversize that array to at least 1.25kw (x1.5) to cover for losses and inefficiency.

I don't think I will wanna go Fangpusun for something not large scale. That will be investing too much.

Thanks for the heads up baba.
More suggestions are welcome.

Yes. Two relays connected in parallel,
The normally open and the common carries the battery +v to the inverter while the coil of the relays are connected from +v and -v of the CC light Load which energised the relays.
When battery voltage drop to the set voltage cutoff it deactivate the relays causing the inverter to shot down.
Until the battery voltage rise again to set Load reconnect before it can power on again.
Note that the relay rating must be above your Load requirement, if not parallel them to match your requirements.

I understand that the pwm has a cutoff point which works with it's light load output which you use as a signal, how expensive is that pwm?
Meanwhile What are you disconnecting, is it your inverter output or the battery supply to the inverter?
Also, I do not understand the part of paralleling relays

major con of 12v setup is that you are forced to keep ur array under 800w, 600w is the max for a 60amp cc, wch is the commonest, unless you have 80amps, then u can go upto 1kw array. 12v isnt ideal for heavy loads, cos of higher currents involved, 24v is the sweet spot.
Are you talking about a PWM CC, cos I think that with a 60amps MPPT you can still hit the 1350 watts spot comfortably. I think it should be 720watt max for a 60amps PWM on 12volt system and 1440 watts for the 24volt.

So perhaps an MPPT of 60amps on a 24 volt system will be okay, abi?

nope i meant mppt, though i mixed it up its 800w for 60amp mppt CC, thus u can load upto 1200w or so, based on losses and panel efficiency, as max you can get from an array is about 8o%

grin grin grin It's an accessory that can really be useless some times.

Alright, cheaper cc is fine then. Although I'm guessing your idea of investing too much, is because of the price tag quoted here by some of our big sellers... I may be wrong though.

All the best in your installation sir. cool

So curiosity get the better of me eventually and i have my answers now.. grin

Armed with niyiomolunade s reply i
1. Took a laptoolp power supply rated at 24v/2.5A
2. Using a clamp i momentarily shorted the output to see how the adapter itself behaves in a dead short. I noticed it simply cuts supply once amps reaches about 2A for about 1sec then resumes again. Repeating the same process if the same condition persists.

3. Armed with this new information, i connected the laptop charger to the PV input of my expensive smiley fangpusun 100v/30amps mppt controller.

Result

Controller mppt control showed battery charging at 13.3v/ 5-6A.

Since the laptop power supply is rated at about 2A, it was apparent the mppt was doing a buck conversion and charging the battery.

So my curiosity satisfied at last!

I love Science! cheesy

Next is to use a higher regulated I/V to feed the mppt controller and see what happens as it tracks that mpp.

Cheers.
you can use battery in place of PV. This should max the cc and satisfy your curiosity

Your "energy saving" bulb is no longer the in vogue energy saving light bulb. I guess it's CFL bulb and it's what they call "your time don pass".

So please get a 8 watt LED bulb (that is equivalent to a 36 watts CFL) and save the remaining 18 watts for increased back up time.

Also your 32" LED TV traditionally will gulp something in the range of 70 watts at full blast. Does it have "energy saving mode" feature? If yes, activate it and see your 32" 70 watts appliance run at 30 watts. You get to save 40 watts. Add that to the 18 watts saved with the use of LED bulbs and you have 58 watts gold.

That's just appliance sizing alone. It's not what may be primarily responsible for the early death of the solar set up. Other experienced readers will give expert opinions on that.

Our voltage in Nigeria is around 220v so 1.054A X 220V will give you about 230w shocked

But if you calculate with 110v it will be 115w

1. It is not expensive 40A PWM #20k here in Abuja, but I ordered it from AliExpress around #7k.
2. Am disconnecting battery supply to the inverter.
3. Relays are rated like 15A/16VDC, 25A/16VDC, etc. So if for instance your total Load requirement is 300watts and your battery system is 12v, 300÷12=25A so either one relay of 25A/16VDC or two relays of 15A/16VDC connected in parallel to share the current drowned from the battery. For larger load contactor may be employed.
