Some of una sef... What marginalization are u talking about?? D igalas are originally from kogi state and due to migration and expansion happened to have found demselves in anoda state and have adopted d culture of such a people. Dis is d same igala ppl who don't consider d Yoruba speaking ppl of kogi state as relevant. Kogi state is made up of d Igalas, Ebiras and Kabba ppl but d Igalas have always claimed superiority over dem all but here's someone talking of marginalization in some else's land... I wonder what u want d gbagis in Abuja and Niger state to say...

Nigeria indeed has ethnic groups dispersed across several states, only few states are homogenous.

However I want to correct your assertion that Obi people in Nasarawa are Igbo's. I don't know about how they came about that name, but it is not a hard thing to find names in other areas similar to what you have in other well defined ethnic groups.

Obi people in Nasarawa are not Igbo. The Igbo people there are migrants. Obi people are just like their brothers in Jenkwe, Ayaragu, Awe all belong to the ethnic groups normally shared between Nasarawa and Plateau and a few local ones. If you have your doubts meet with the emir or obi. His palace is not too far from the main bus stop in Obi.

While you have IBO people there selling their items like provisions as they do in other areas, they all return home to the east during Xmas and new year. In fact it would be difficult for you to get some provisions during this period as the Igbo's who normally sell it would have returned to their towns in the east for the yuletide.

Don't define a people's culture by the name of their town.

you are very much on point...am igbo and i ve been to Obi local govt in Nasarawa, they are not Igbos,i believe Obi should mean something else in there language. They are equally nice people!

I can help with the "market". They simply call it "Kasunwa" if I remember correctly. Can't remember others. They share some words with other Nigerian languages. I was familiar with some words there that had similar meanings with Yoruba's. But those similarities are so few and far that I saw them as mere coincidences

IGALA:THE PLIGHT OF IGALA PEOPLE IN ANAMBRA STATE.
lgala is an ethnic group In Nigeria with over ten million population as of now. The home of the Igala people is situated east of the river Niger and Benue confluence and astride the Niger.
the Igala people share boundary with the igbos(ibo) people at the south, idoma at the east, Benis people at the west and Ebira people at the north.
The Igala people are found in Kogi state with 55 percent of kogi state population and also found in Anambra state, Enugu state, Edo state and Delta state.
The Igala people which are found in the Anambra west are mostly Mmiata Anam, Umuoba-Abegbu Anam, Umuenwelum Anam, Oroma-Etiti,Umueze Anam, Umudora Anam, Umuikwu Anam, Inoma-Akator, Nzam, Igbedor and Iyiora Anam all from the family of Ogbe the descendants of General Ajida, a notable warrior of Idah origin(Idah is traditional headquarters of Igala kingdom) Ajida is the father of field marshal Ogbe who was married to Iyida.
The family of ogbe and other Anambra west villages. Anam, Anako, and Akpanam people have recently neglected their real tribe Igala which was the language they were speaking originally as their mother tongue before the Nigeria civil war.
As a Igala tribe in an Igbo state, it is very difficult because Anambra state government has make it compulsory for all the school to speak igbo(ibo) through out which sometime makes it difficult for Igala young one to speak Igala.
Igala people in Anambra west are making a lot of mistakes now because some of them are given igbo names to their children rather than Igala name. They know that they are Igala people but the Anambra west generations of youths does not really knows who there are rather they thinks they are igbo because most of them bears Igbo names.
The history of Nzam are traces back to descendants of General Ajida, a notable warrior of Idah origin who came to the town. Ajida is the father of field marshal Ogbe who was married to Iyida. He was the first settler of the present place Ogbe area of Anambra west.
In my interview with a man called chinedu Idoko an indigene of the land. I ask him about himself and his tribes and also his names.
This was his reply, my names is chinedu Idoko, I am an Igala man, but I bears igbo names while my father names Idoko Atama an Igala names. I was given the name after the Nigeria civil war in in 1971.
Speaking further to chinedu.
Why are you people in this Generation doesn't want to give yourself Igala names again? I don't know maybe it is because we are living in Anambra an Igbo state. But we still speak our Igala language as our mother tongue.
Most youths in Anambra who are bearing Igbo names and some times are not living in Anambra west will thinks that there are igbos not knowing there Igala people.
Our land has lack development and government neglection on our land. Our only roads that links our town is not something we might talks about because it is not good.
We are the least undeveloped area i Anambra state lacking many facilities.
Nzam people must know their origin and try to preserve their origin before it dies off.
An advice to Ogbe family of Anambra west. Stop given your children Igbo names and teach your children how to speak Igala.
Do you know that the king of Nzam originally was called Ide of Nzam. Which means the Guardian of Nzam people. Ide means Guardian in igala not igwe now they are calling them.

Do you know that many Igbos are of Igala origin. They are called Olu people and like the Nri (Judeo-Egyptian)and Aro (partly Ibibio), are spread all over Igbo Land today? I don't think the Nzam people are facing any discrimination from other Igbos because, no matter where you come from, once you are a member of this Special Culture called Igbo, you are a member. No one can take it away from you.

There are no Igala lands in Anambra state rather Igala people. The Igalas in Kogi are not better than Igalas in Anambra state. Anambra is a marginalized state, so everybody in Anambra is marginalized.
what do mean by no igala land in Anambra?

So Anambra will not develop a community in her state because of Igala people? If they were not treated fairly by Igbos, they won't be comfortable with igbo names.

If igalas in Anambra are happy and want to become Anambrarians, so be it.

Are those saying the location is riverine thus suggesting such places should never expect development?

Are they also willing to accept such reasons for the stiffled growth of the Niger Delta?

The major issue I have with the OP is the deliberate misinformation on the components of Igala area in Anambra. Nzam is the only Igala town while the entire villages of Anam he listed has nothing to do with Igala apart from the fact that they are in same LGA. I doubt if the OP is from the area in question otherwise he would have known that Igala constitutes less than 10% of the local govt let alone the state. It's a height of Ignorance to say that Anam and Okpanam stopped being Igala after the war.

I however agree that the area is far behind in infrastructural development

These communities are the riverine people. I know Igbedor is mostly Igala but the other communities I think are mostly Igbos. They are underdeveloped because of the difficult terrain and their location is kinda-off out of sight. Most of their business is Agriculture,so farmland are valued. I never saw it that they are marginalized but they are minorities so it's possible. I visited Umueleum(not sure of the spelling) 13yrs ago and their road was very bad. I don't know if that has changed. Riverine Anambrians need good roads and a link road to the upper land will make the area appeal to investors. Obiano please take note.

grin I think difficult terrain are not easy to develop. It costs more money and time so a lazy government use that as an excuse.

You are on point, the OP has a valid point regarding infrastructure but not on the ethnicity. I know the terrain very well, the only motorable road there is Umueze-Mmaita road which was started by Obi and completed by Obiano. The other major road is a federal highway linking Onitsha to Kogi and Abuja which is still technically dead.

However the OP must avoid misinformation on social makeup of the area.

I don't think marginalization is best to word here, because the effect of not being taken care by the Government is not just for Igala speaking part alone but for entire LGA which made up of both Igalas and Igbos. I know that it very difficult to construct road in such a water log area compare to upland ones but that is not a yardstick for past Government of Anambra not building a tarred road for the first time in the entire LGA except the last and present administration who was able to construct a tarred road connecting Umueze Anam to Mmiata Anam and heading to Nzam (the LGA headquarter) but is under construction with strong effort. I believe that it will reach Innoma(boundary town between Anambra and kogi). I pray that the present administration continued so that road project will not be abandoned.

Nzam is not and was never an Igala settlement. There are Igalas in Nzam today, largely because of Ajida of Idah invasion of the Igbo speaking town of Nzam and her people, Igbos were displaced from Nzam by Igala invasion, but the displaced Igbos United and retook parts of Nzam from Igalas and today, the Igbo line control the royal stool of Nzam.

Nzam remain bilingual in both Igbo and Igala. The Igalas there are slowly assimilating into their hosts culture.

Nobody should come and rewrite history here.
