Do You Really Need A High Speed Processing Device? Find Out Here by Nobody: 10:46am On Jul 15, 2017
Every mobile device user has a reason for making use of his/her device, or a reason to want to get another device.

For whatever the reason is, the important thing is that it suites its owner’s purpose.

One would have considered the fact that his/her device should be able to make calls, send text messages before any other thing right? So why is a high-speed processing device so essential?

We are in a smart age. Nigeria is a country with a high population of youths, this makes smartphones to be widely used, and this usage is constantly on the increase yearly.

We are in a smart age. Nigeria is a country with a high population of youths, this makes smartphones to be widely used, and this usage is constantly on the increase yearly.

A smartphone performs several functions apart from mere communication. Several apps have been created over the years to make man’s mobile activities easier and more productive, and this can only be done via smartphones and not the regular feature (cheaper) phones.

You can store data, chat, video call, surf the internet, download files, and carry out activities you would normally do on your PC, right on your smartphone. With the help of innovative applications, you can even control your TV, start your cars remotely, scan bar codes, post mails, check maps, use flashlights on your phone, find deals, shop online, and lots more.

All this will be quite difficult if you use a low-speed processing device. So, yes, you need a high-speed processing device to fully enjoy the functionalities an innovative application can render via your smartphone.

A processor is a logic circuit that responds to and processes the basic instructions that drive a computer. A smartphone processor executes what you want the smartphone to do.

Types of processors

Early devices started with a single core, till engineers started creating more powerful devices that required more cores. A core is found in the main processor, it reads and executes the instructions.

Single core - 1 core
Dual core - 2 cores
Quad core - 4 cores
Hexa core - 6 cores
Octa core - 8 cores

There is even a deca core (10 cores) like the one found in Tecno Phantom 6plus. But octa core seems to be the mostly used as found in many of the phones of 2017 like Samsung S8/8+, Gionee A1, Tecno CX & even the latest CX Limited Edition.

The more the cores, the faster the speed at which the device would be able to process and execute any instruction or groups of instructions given to it. However, this does not mean that an octa core is twice as fast as a quad core, it only means that it can multitask better than the quad core. If for example, you are browsing the net, the other cores can get to work when a video call comes in, they will not necessarily make the single browsing session any faster unless there are complex images to be rendered (displayed) on the screen.

In conclusion, when opting for a new smartphone/tablet, the processor specification should be considered. It is essential you go for a higher speed processor, as long as you need speed and ease of application use.

True. The need for a good processor in a smartphone cannot be overemphasized. I can't deal with a device that lags. cc Lalasticlala, Mynd44, Ishilove, Seun

Nice piece op. The more the cores the faster the speed and to think that Tecno phantom 6 has 10 cores unlike the other flagship phones. That's great

According to op, the more the tyres in an automobile, the faster it runs, therefore a trailer runs faster than a range rover sports car grin.

Never really understood the effect of the cores on the way it processes information. But now I get why my friend's Phantom 6 performs optimally

Depends.

but one thing to note is that,
a lower end processor irrespective of speed or number of cores would find it to outperform a high end processor in all aspects. So always go for smartphones with high end processors.

Your analogy misses the bull's eye. It's not the number of tires that make an automobile move as fast as you want it; rather its the type of engine that powers the automobile, by way of number of cylinders (4, 6, 8, 12, 16, etc), flow control of air and fuel, cooling system, etc. The tires help with movement and weight/terrain tolerance after the engine transfers power to it. A processor serves as the engine for computers and mobile devices. They can be built, with more cores on a chip or multi-chip module, to be as powerful as their intended use, enabling the device to perform multiple times faster.

Fallacy, only Mediatek makes Flagship Deca Core Chipsets and they are far less performing than Octa Core Exynos 8895 Chipsets from Samsung,Qualcomm's Octa Core 835 Snapdragons and Apple's A10 Fusion Quad Core Chipsets..more is not ALWAYS better..there's more to a Chipset than the number of CORES..

the better analogy for his post is the more the cylinder value v4 blabla the better more the speed. I think that's what mtk is about. They forgot the tyre(ram) that carries d weight and tasks. So if a truck has 10 tyres and a v12 engine, be sure it will give a range a run for its money

You should not have wasted time to explain because the guy only used satire to enlighten the OP that what really matters is the speed of microprocessors. e.g a quad core clocked at 3.0Ghz is better than an octa core clocked at 1.2Ghz.

According to op, the more the tyres in an automobile, the faster it runs, therefore a trailer runs faster than a range rover sports car grin.

You are wrong assuming your analogy is right - which is clearly incorrect in automobile sense. Op clearly states that "The more the cores, the faster the speed at which the device would be able to process and execute any instruction or groups of instructions given to it. However, this does not mean that an octa core is twice as fast as a quad core, it only means that it can multitask better than the quad core".

A quad core can have more powerful cores than an octacore processor. For example: A quad core processor with four Cortex-72 will run at a faster clock speed than an octa-core processor with all its cores as cortex-53 because the former is more powerful than the latter. However, an octa-core processor will be able to multitask better than a quad-core processor.
Architecture - 14nm or 28nm - is another factor to be considered when talking about speed
NB: Ram also affects multitasking as it stores data temporarily.
All in all, a good processor requires a good Ram for optimization

higher number of cores does not always translate to better performance. Architecture, clock speed and other parameters are factors too. Some V8 engines outperform some V12s.

I used ask myself how a macbook (core i5 4GB RAM) can beat a core i7 Windows laptop with lots of ram in graphics design(speed test), turns out the it's the software optimisation with the hardware, so if tecno put 10 cores of processors, 10 GB of ram and a wack OS optimisation and Apple drops an i-phone with 2GB, low number of core but and good optimised OS, the iphone comes out tops.

P.S Mac aren't good for gaming because the OS isn't optimised to game.
